November 3, 2010
1) TEFC was quoted as this is the most cost effective option for this particular rating.
The industry does not offer a WPII enclosure on this small of rating/frame size since iUs less expensive
to supply a better enclosure (TEFC). (The WPI enclosure shown in the pump data was a type-o error)
2) The bearing life calculations are included in the attached submittal revision. Lateral and torsional. rotor
3) The cover letter has been revised to include "Platinum" in the description for the RTD's.
All 100 Ohm RTDs are made of Platinum so we normally don't need to make this distinction.
4) The motors are currently designed to be Premium Efficient, but not "NEMA Premium".
The "Nema Premium" Standards were defined by Nema in their MG-1 tables in 2001. Being a "definite
purpose" motor used in a definite purpose application, high thrust vertical motors are not required to
meet these standards.
Inherentto their design to handle high axial thrust loads, vertical motors have higher friction and
windage losses (primarily in the form of more/larger bearings). Therefore electrical designs that would
normally make the "Nema Premium" values in a horizontal motor configuration, when used in the
vertical configuration, may not make the same efficiency due to these increased friction and windage
losses.
The DOE recognizes this and thus does not require high thrust vertical motors to meet the same
efficiency values as "general purpose" motors. Normally the lower efficiency for our high thrust vertical
motor is not more than one efficiency ban width less than the same horizontal motor rating. In fact
many ratings do make the general purpose motor requirement, but not all.
5) The motors that will be supplied are Inverter Duty per NEMA MG-1, part 31. (see attached)
8) The submittal cover letter and the motor nameplate data both show that the motor is good for 4400
FASL. 4400 FASL is not currently an available altitude that can be displayed on the performance data
or curves, but the motor has been evaluated at thiS altitude and the 4400' will be what is shown on the
motors' actual nameplate.
9) The speed torque curves are included in the attached submittal revision.
10) The 200 HP order already has the Non Reverse Ratchet and it is listed on the submittal cover letter.
11) The. dimension print for the 600 HP motor already shows the lifting hooks and the dimension print for
the 200 HP motor has been updated to clearly designate the lifting provisions. The "arrange to
accommodate" vibration detector (qty 1 - upper bracket) has been added to the orders and shown on
the respective prints.
12) The stainless steel hardware is already listed on the submittal cover letter.
13) The tests that will be performed meet the requirements of the specification. The 600H Ps will receive a
"complete initial tesf' and "polarization index" test. The 200HPs will receive a "short commercial" test.
14) We are not supplying the vibration detector, only arrange to accommodate.

This is to certify that our Emerson 1 USEM "Varidyne Inverter Duty" motors are
functionally compatible with any "Adjustable Frequency Drive" on the market today
that does not exceed NEMA MG-1, Part 31 specs at the motor. Please see our
Product Data Sheet publication PDS544-193.
These "Varidyne" motors are specifically designed for use with "AFDs" and are
certified to develop nameplate HP and torque throughout the speed range without
injurious heating to the motor.

depending on the accuracy with which the operating conditions can be defined.
The basic ABMA equation for rating life is L1D :;:; (CtP)P.
= =
p = Life Exponent, ball bearing 3, roller 3.333.
Since operating conditons of motors are defined to a great extent, a more accurate life rating is
possible with use of adjustment factors a1. a2. a3 as defined by ABMA and ISO.
Where: a1 = Life adjustment factor for reliablity. Assume 1.0 for L10190% reliability.
a2 =Ufe adjustmentfactor for material. Assume 1.0 for standard bearing steels.
a3 = Life adjustment factor for operating conditions. Typically varies between 1.0 and 3;0
depending on lubricant viscosity and temperature.
Incorporating the adjustment factors, converting revolutions to hours, and adding a factor for thrust only,

1. Introduction
The PR0440/6000 is a versatile, programmable vibration protection instrument. Within its standard configuration, the
electronic switch is an economical single set point vibration switch loaded with standard features and packaged in industrial
grade housing.
PRO switches can be configured via a real time remote operator interface membrane keypad or a USB interface to a PC.
This capability allows users to tailor the switch specifically to their monitoring needs. In addition, an isolated proportional
4-20 mA output and a buffered output give easy access to the machine vibration signal.
The PRO switch accepts most accelerometer or velocity inputs. It can also accept and power a 4-20 mA loop sensor to
become a field monitor. When fully configured, the switch provides local machine protection with an optional alphanumerical
readout.

Vibration operating range
Internal sensor
The PRO switch operating range is dependent on the sensor used. For internal sensor versions the operating range is
limited by the maximum acceleration limits of the circuit components and the mounted resonance of the housing,
For acceleration measurements the range is 10 g (peak orRMS) from 2 Hz to 1 kHz. For velocity measurements, the
operating range is illustrated in the following nomograph .

External sensor
For external sensors the operating range depends on the type of sensor, the sensor output sensitivity, and the measure
ment type (peak or RMS). In some cases the sensor operating range may be less than that of the switch.
When measuring acceleration. the maximum amplitude is the lesser of the following:
The switch configuration software will limit the full scale range based on the sensor sensitivity and measurement type.
Sensor Sensitivity Maximum 9 peak Maximum m/s2 peak Maximum g RMS Maximum O1/s2 RMS

100 mV/g 50 500 35 353
110 mV/g 45 454 32 321
When measuring velocity with an external accelerometer, a nomograph best illustrates the allowable measurement range.
This applies for sensors with sensitivity up to 100 mV/g, and can be easily adjusted for higher sensitivities using the maxi

3. Installation
There are two types of the housing for the vibration switch.

The sensitive axis of the switch can be mounted on any radial axis, although the horizontal axis is preferred so that unit can
see maximum vibrations. The horizontal axis also reduces the temperature exposure as compared to the vertical axis.
The switch is designed to dissipate internal.heat by conduction through its base. Hence, it is important to keep the mounting
surface at or below the switch max temperature limit of 185°F. If the equipment being monitored is going to exceed this limit,
consideration should be given to either using one of the remote transducers. or thermally isolating the switch.
Although seal tight and other flexible conduit have been used successfully, in areas of extreme humidity or moisture it is
recommended that an "SO" type cable together with a suitable rain-tight CGB fitting be used. .

!f remote reset capability is desired, connect the Reset terminals to the remotely located momentary NO (Normally Open)
push button switch: User is expected to connect a potential free contact at these terminals. The necesSary excitation for
this Reset Switch is provided by the vibration switch. The RESET input clears all the latched alarms when the reset input is
momentarilY closed. The resetting of alarms occurs only after the input is below the alarm set points. Th.e reset switch does
not play any role in non latching type of alqrms. '
The bypass input forcefully disables the relays from entering into alarm or shutdown states.
Connect Bypass terminals to the remotely located NO (Normally Open) toggle switch. User is expected to connect a potential
free contact at these terminals. The necessary excitation for this Bypass Switch is provided by the vibration switch.
Proportional analog 4-20mA output is provided from the vibration switch. 4 rnA corresponds to zero vibration; 20mA
corresponds to full scale vibrations as set by range mA The 4-20 rnA output is self-powered (sourcing) and therefore
requires no external power source.
The 4-20 mA output is electrically isolated from the switch power supply. Shielded wire is recommended to reduce the noise
pick up. .
In case of any malfunction like sensor not ok, the analog output is dropped to 3.6 rnA.
'1010910 Page 15
3.3.1.7 Connecting the Buffer Output:
Raw signal from the sensor is available at the terminal block. It is capable of driving a cable with a capacitance of up to
O.02uF.
The buffered output provides connection terminals to access the "raw" output of the vibration sensor.
Connect external sensors between IN + & IN - terminals for acquisition. Following 4 types of sensor can be connected to
the switch:
1. External Accelerometer
2. Pieza-electric velocity
3. Electromechanical velocity (Metrix 5485C)
4. 4-20mA Transmitter input
For incoming power & switch outputs use approved wire of 14AWG (1.5sq. mm) or smaller. For reset & bypass functions
use a twisted pair cable to reduce electrical noise pick up.
The dynamic sensor signal output is available at the terminal strip. For the Analog & Buffer dynamic signal outputs a
shieldedlwisted pair cable is recommended. The shield should be common at the receiver end only. For the dynamic buffer
signal output the capaCitance of the cable run must not exceed O.02uF.
It IS highly recommended that all power wiring should be routed separately from the output signals to reduce AC/transient
noise pick up.
. No stress should be given on the terminal block wiring. If such protection is not provided by the conduit system, some form
of stress relief must be installed where wiring exits the housings.
To assure compatibility with EMC·standards, any signal level wiring for transducer, reset or 4-20 mA, etc. should utilize
shielded cable in EMI proof conduit, separate from any power wiring.
