Chapter 1 – Happiness > Sadness

“Happiness is a choice”
Our English teacher when I was in 10th grade always says "Happiness is a choice". It's rare to see him
get angry or get sad. He's always full of good vibes. Me at that time was in a seriously fucked up
relationship and I had issues with fam. I got lost finding happiness.
I'm a spoiled kid since I was a kid and I'm not used to being not 'in-control'. At that time, I didn’t get
what I really want – to be happy and peace. It was affecting my education and the teachers figured
that they didn’t really have anyone to call to talk about my issues.
They decided to counsel me every dismissal. Teachers kept me on rotation. I didn't really talk much
because I don’t want anyone to know the real story. Until one time 'that teacher' decided to say his
motto in life. "Happiness is a choice".
I said "Happiness is a choice - ibig sabihin piliin ko kung saan ako masaya? (means I should choose
where I’m actually happy?)"
He said "Hindi yun’ gano’n. Ibig sabihin kung anong me’ron ka o wala ka dapat maging masaya ka
dahil nasa’yo ang desisyon maging masaya. (No, it’s not like that. It means whatever's happening, you
should always be happy cause it’s your decision to be happy)."
The more I think about it, the more it makes sense. Our perspective on life is the only thing that
should matter. Be grateful for the things you have and don't cry for the things you don't have. Think
bigger. Make your understanding wider.
Someone told me just be stupid and get sad until it no longer feels like that- that’s how you move on.
No, that’s not how it is. Its okay to be sad for a while but don’t reserve a place for sadness in your
heart. What if it stays longer that it should’ve been? What if you’re always sad? That’s why you need
to start helping yourself to be happy instead of relying your happiness onto someone. You hold your
own happiness – and so is sadness.
Instead of holding onto sadness longer, why not think of something that could help yourself to be
happy? Instead of thinking ‘no one can save you from your own thoughts’, why not try asking for
someone or save your own self from destruction? Instead of listening to others about your own
happiness, why not make yourself the boss of your happiness?
It will be hard to help yourself to overcome sadness but it will always be worth it. You don’t need to
rush. Always take your own pace and time. Stop for a second and think ‘Why am I sad?’, ‘What can I
do to overcome this sadness?’, ‘What can make me happy?’, ‘What/who can help me?’…
Don’t let yourself drown in your sad thoughts. Always know when is ‘enough’.
Chapter 2 – Do not rely your Happiness onto
someone/something
Chapter 3 – I’m a Toxic Person
If you know you’re a toxic person in somebody’s life/lives, own it and by owning it doesn’t mean you
need to shout it out loud that ‘You are a toxic person’. Understand that you’re a toxic person and
know what you can do to change who you are. Being toxic doesn’t define who you really are rather
it’s a behaviour you possess
People don’t really admit they are ‘one’ even after someone said it to them and sometimes someone
has said it to you that doesn’t mean you are ‘one’?
