What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
G OD reveals His presence:
Let us now adore Him,
Everything to God in prayer! And with awe appear before
O what peace we often forfeit, Him.
O what needles pain we bear, God is in His temple:
All because we do not carry All within keep silence,
Everything to God in prayer! Prostrate lie with deepest
reverence. Him alone
2 Have we trials and God we own,
temptations? Him our God and Saviour:
Is there trouble anywhere? Praise His Name forever.
We should never be discouraged:
Take it to the Lord in prayer. 2 God reveals His presence:
Can we find a friend so faithful, Hear the harps resounding,
Who will all our sorrows share? See the crowds the throne
Jesus knows our every weakness: surrounding;
Take it to the Lord in prayer. Holy, holy, holy!
Hear the hymn ascending,
3 Are we weak and heavy-laden, Angels, saints, their voices
Cumbered with a load of care? blending.
Jesus only is our refuge: Bow Thine ear
Take it to the Lord in prayer. To us here;
Do thy friends despise, forsake Hearken, 0 Lord Jesus,
thee? To our meaner praises.
Take it to the Lord in prayer;
In His arms He’ll take and shield 3 0 Thou Fount of blessing,
thee; Purify my spirit,
Thou wilt find a solace there. Trusting only in Thy merit:
Like the holy angels
Joseph Scriven, 1820-86.
Who behold Thy glory,
May I ceaselessly adore Thee.
Let Thy will, Ever still
Rule Thy Church terrestrial,
As the hosts celestial.
