DATA BASE MANAGEMENT

DATABASE:

Database is a accumulation of information that you manage and access according to

the structure of that information. Databases are preferred in large mainframe systems,
but are also present in smaller distributed workstations and mid range systems, such
as IBM's AS/400 and personal computers.

DATABASE ADMINISTRATORS:
Database administrators are used by the users and programmers in order to
access data which they require in decision making or to run applications and for
managing and security of the data in the database. Special softwares are used by them
in order to store data.
DATABASE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM:
Database management system is a set of software that is used by the
organizations to access the data and has been designed to provide a systematic and
flexible approach that could possibly organize and manage data that exist as separate
files in database management and only one program or file entry is required.
Moreover they are responsible for managing, updating and storing data. When a
customer wants to have knowledge about his or her account all the checking, savings
and loan data becomes readily available. DBMS has not yet been fully enforced in
Habib Bank and will be used when web-access is made. It is used for referencing only
and soft copies are made for example a credit database may include:
 Name
 Location
 approval authority of credit
 expiry/tenure
 securities
 sort of finance

DATABASE STRUCTURE OF HBL

Every organization has its own database and structure and keeps it different and
distinctive from other organizations. Big organization has different structure than the
organization having smaller in size. The database structure of HBL is centralized.
There is Main server called Phoenix in regional branch blue area where all data is
stored. Main server remains active 24 hours in a day. The main server is the
intelligent server which works on its own and performs automatically pthe actions on
the data sent by the branch. It tells the real time position of the account .e.g. ATM
NETWORK.
NETWORK: Network is combination of one or more system for the purpose of
sharing data, sharing resources and sharing programs.

DATA MANAGEMENT:
Data management is also one of the important component of HBL and plays
vital role in this regard. They are responsible for managing data to fulfill the data
needs. It is mostly used by the managers and is more effective when they want to
access data. Most of the other databases data has been stored on computer-files and
databases. These databases include:
 Customer/client databases
 Employee databases
 Accounting databases
 Credit databases
Data can be stored in different formats such as magnetic disks, compact disks and it
can also be stored on paper such as reports and business forms.
However it has been proved and believed that Computer based storage offers several
advantages over paper based storage, as data stored on paper can be easily loss or
misplaced. Data stored in the form of media provide several advantages such as
abilities to;
 store data compactly and efficiently
 quickly edit and modify stored data and make backup copies
 In HABIB BANK all the data is directly stored in head office.
 Information Technology department of HABIB BANK have a simple database
structure and use online processing/real time processing that transaction
 Simple application software is being using to control, create and manage
database..

FILE BASED MANAGEMENT SYSTEM:

They consists of several programs and such programs exists in the form of file
base system. HBL also stores data in the form of files and it is also convenient as it
can easily be acquired when needed. File processing refers to an environment in
which data is stored into files (collection of related records). such file based
management system are especially connected to the specific application programs that
are in use within the organization. These data and files are shared by many
application programs. Although file management is done manually as files on the
computer cannot be manually signed, but files are also created on computer for record
and references.
Files made on FMBS include:-
 Basic borrowers fact sheet (personal & professional record)
 Their Securities (legal documents are manually kept0
 Correspondent Files
 Credit Files & Legal Files

WORKING:
File based management system is used by Habib bank for processing data base
files with different customer files for example: checking, savings and loans.
Customers can ask different questions if they are having any query related to their
account or account balance
Service representative has to go through the following procedure:
 Enter the checking-account-balance program
 Get the required checking Information
 Leave program
 Enter saving-account-balance program
 Get the required saving Information and leave program
 Enter loan-account-balance program
 Get the required loan Information and leave program

Networking
It means to connect or to work as a network. It involves the exchange of information
through interaction. It is the set of two or more computer systems connected and
linked together.

Network Administrator
At HBL networking is as important as database management system. They
perform different functions within a network. They are generally used for installing
and renewing any hardware and software to run efficiently and effectively a computer
network. It is especially required by telecommunications mangers and network
managers for meeting the data communications needs of users in the organization. An
organization can not work effectively if they are not have a sound network
administration. The increasing competition and high trend toward networking and
distributed processing has increased the importance of these positions. All the
workstations within the Bank are connected through Local Area Network (LAN).The
bank has over 101 branches all over the country which have been linked through
Microwave or Phone lines, Satellites and most of the connections have been provided
by PTCL.

NETWORKING GAN LAN VPN WAN CAN PAN MAN

NETWORK STRUCTURE OF HBL:
HBL using four types of networks which are:
 Local Area Networks (LAN)
 Wide Area Network (WAN)
 Global Area Network (GAN)
 Virtual Private Network(VPN)

LOCAL AREA NETWORK:

A local area network (LAN) is such network use to covera small physical area, like a
home, office, or small group of buildings, such as a school, or an airport.
For example in an office there are 5 computers. One computer is for manager and it
has printer attached to her computer. Now that printer can be shared to other
computers by networking. This type of networking is called local area network.

Here are the examples of LAN:-

 Networking in home, office.

 Networking between two computers.
 Wi-Fi (When we consider wireless LAN)
WIDE AREA NETWORK:
It cover more areas than LAN. A wide area network (WAN) is a computer network
that covers a broad area (i.e. any network whose communications links cross
metropolitan, regional, or national boundaries. Less formally, a WAN uses routers
and public communications links. Contrast with personal area networks (PANs), local
area networks(LANs), campus area networks (CANs), or metropolitan area networks
(MANs), which are usually limited to a room, building, campus or specific
metropolitan area (e.g., a city)respectively.
The largest and most well-known example of a WAN is the Internet. On internet we
transfer files from one computer to other. There is ftp, http and https protocols are
used to transfer files on the internet. Ftp stands for file transfer protocol.
Example of Wide area network (WAN)
 Internet is the example of WAN.
We can also classify networks in different ways like client server network, peer to
peer network, application server network. In these networks we use mostly LAN,
WAN and MAN
GLOBAL AREA NETWORK:
A global area networks (GAN) specification is in development by several groups,
and there is no common definition. It can cover an unlimited area and it contain
different computer networks. In general, however, a GAN is a model for supporting
mobile communications across an arbitrary number of wireless LANs, satellite
coverage areas, etc. The key challenge in mobile communications is"handing off" the
user communications from one local coverage area to the next.

VIRTUAL PRIVATE NETWORK:

It provides safety and security over the network that is less secure I.e internet. So, we
can say that it add security to a less secured network. A virtual private network (VPN)
is a computer network in which some of the links between nodes are carried by open
connections or virtual circuits in some larger network(e.g., the Internet) instead of by
physical wires. The data link layer protocols of the virtual network are said to be
tunneled through the larger network when this is the case
CONNECTIVITY:
Parallel.
Microwave or Phone lines.
VIA-satellite.
ROUTERS:
Model RA 46-40 (Red line)

Switches:

Model S3000-S3500

Power cable:

PABX for VOIP

As we discussing Information System or Management Information

System (MIS) we will explain the many sub-systems that make up a Management
Information System (MIS) these are:

Before any MIS is discussed here it is to be made clear that computer is only a
part of Information System or Management Information System (MIS). The
information system may be computer based or manual both have to be taken into
account while discussing a Management Information System (MIS).
PERSONAL PRODUCTIVITY OF MANAGERS:
Managers of HBL are equally responsible for the success that it has achieved up till
now. They are given special training in order to understand the work. HBL’s training
is the process of teaching new employees the basic skills they need to perform their
jobs and development is result of that training.
The training methods used by HBL are:
 On-the-job Training
 Off-the-job Training
 Apprenticeship Training
 Effective lectures
They are personally liable for setting the goals are are equally appreciated in
achieving them. Their increase and improve performance reflects the hard-work of
their productivity. They had such a pleasant environment at bank in which their
performance and dedication towards their work is given credit. So such kind of
environment encourages and motivates them and their performance is also given due
credit because of the hard work they are doing.
