Learning Objective MATH SOL 1.14: The students will identify, describe, extend, and create growing and repeating patterns.

Activity With this Web 2.0 tool, students create their own profile within a class’s page. The teacher must first create the
Pedagogy

class’s page and add the names of the students. Then, each one is able to scan a QR code or login with a Google
account to join the online classroom. Teachers can also request a temporary class code for students to enter if the
scanner will not work. Once students are in, they can complete “Activities” by creating a drawing, writing notes in
their journal, putting together a video response, adding a photo, uploading a file, and/or adding a link to their
response, depending on what the teacher has assigned. Once finished with the activity, students can add a caption
to their work as well. Students can also view their classmates’ work and “like” or comment on their work, as well
as communicate with the teacher or other students in the “Inbox” tab, which is similar to a chat room.

For this assignment students will open up the Patterns Practice activity in the “Activities” tab on the classroom
page. TSW create four different patterns using the tools that the website offers to demonstrate their ability to
generate different patterns using shapes, colors, letters, and numbers. After creating their own patterns, students
will look at their peers’ creations to practice identifying, describing, and extending the different patterns they have
designed.

Technology The program used is called Seesaw, which is free to teachers and students, and even has a free option for parents
and families to log on and see what their students have created. This program is most commonly used on an iPad
or Chromebook in the classroom, but can also be accessed on a laptop or desktop computer, as well as a mobile
Link to the example device. Seesaw requires users to be a part of the online classroom to view the activities created. I
product added “Professor Rippard” as an example student in my classroom. By going to
https://app.seesaw.me and selecting “I’m a Student,” you can scan this QR code to pull up
my classroom, and select “Professor Rippard” on the students list. From there, you can
view the example I created as a sample student by clicking on “Journal.” If you would like,
the assignment is also listed in your “Activities” tab and you can create your own response
for the assignment to experience the same process the students would go through.
