FACULTY POSITION @HCT – WORKLOAD & ROLES
WORKLOAD
All full time faculty are required to work 8 hours per day / 40 hours per week, excluding the lunch break.
The work days in a week are normally Sunday to Thursday.
The hours of work for academic employees are based on the teaching schedule. Generally the workload for
faculty is 15 credit hours per week, averaged over an academic year.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Faculty Role
•Using a practical, applied approach, teach courses that are in line with course and program goals to meet
the needs and aspirations of the students and the community
•Develop and utilize various educational technology resources to ensure that effective and innovative
instruction methodologies are employed
•Apply strategies to ensure that effective student learning is achieved within a second-language
environment, providing continuous feedback on student progress through a variety of assessment tools,
including tests, projects, assignments and other evaluation instruments
•Take a student-centered approach, providing students with individual assistance, and dealing promptly
with student issues by liaising directly with the student, program supervisor and other College personnel as
required
•Support and mentor students during internships and work placements
•Maintain regular office hours in order to advise and assist students
•Monitor student progress and take action to support student success
ROLES IN FACULTY POSITION (CONTD.) @HCT
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Administrative Role
• Ensure that teaching assignments are prepared in advance and that the material is
presented in an appropriate manner to support student success and Learning by Doing
concept.
• Develop course curriculum under the guidance of the line management as per accreditation
and international standards and maintain the relevance of the materials
• Provide input to program and course reviews and make recommendations based on
consultations with students, colleagues and external agencies
• Contribute to the development of the HCT by monitoring programs and identifying areas
for improvement; by observing and implementing College and system-wide policies and
procedures; and by participating in extra-curricular activities and community events
• Ensure curriculum is revised as appropriate from Faculty-wide assessment information or
with industry advice
• Develop an awareness of and respect for the customs and cultures of HCT students and
employees
• Other duties as assigned by the supervisor
ROLES IN FACULTY POSITION (CONTD.) @HCT
GOVERNANCE ROLE

Industry Advisory Committee - Each Faculty is required to have, individually, or as part of a group of
programs of which it is a part, one or more Industry Advisory Committees (IAC's) consisting of external
community stakeholders, industry professionals and relevant educational leaders from the HCT.
Faculty are encouraged to participate on Faculty committees or HCT system wide committees ensuring
academic excellence, academic oversight or academic initiatives such as innovation and applied research.

STANDARDS OF PROFESSIONAL & CULTURAL NORMS


•All faculty and administrators should be aware of the HCT Learning by Doing philosophy. New staff and
students should be taught the HCT Learning Model and Learning by Doing as part of their orientation.
•Student learning outcomes must align with accrediting agency standards, where applicable.
•Faculty are responsible for explaining and ensuring that students understand the HCT definition for
academic dishonesty and the types of behavior that will be considered academic misconduct.
•Faculty must be certain that the students understand the disciplinary measures and consequences of
academic misbehavior
•Faculty must assure that the teaching/learning environment is sensitive to the cultural heritage of HCT
students
•Faculty must recognize that students are the very embodiment of the HCT's institutional mission.
FACULTY POSITION (ENGINEERING) @HCT
ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS

•PhD in a relevant discipline as appropriate

•A Master's Degree in an Engineering discipline including Applied Engineering


Technology, Aeronautical, Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Electronics, Marine,
Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering, Petroleum, Math/Physics and a
professional certification relevant to the discipline

•Bachelor's Degree may also be considered for candidates with extensive industry
experience and industry certification

•Appropriate academic professional qualifications as required


FACULTY POSITION (MATH) @HCT

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS
•Ph.D. in Mathematics or other relevant specialization such as Applied
Mathematics, Applied Analysis, Computational Mathematics, Discrete Applied
Mathematics, Math Education, or M.Sc. in Mathematics with 5-year experience in
teaching Mathematics.

• Microsoft Office proficiency

•Learning management system experience, including Blackboard, is a strong


preference
FACULTY POSITION (BUSINESS) @HCT
ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS

• PhD in a relevant discipline is required.

• A minimum of 3 years of teaching/training experience, preferably at an adult or


tertiary level; industrial training and development experience may be
considered as relevant experience

• At least 3 years of relevant industrial experience

• Must be able to provide instruction at various levels within the program areas

• Experience in developing course curriculum as per accreditation and


international standards
FACULTY POSITION (CIS) @HCT

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS
• Ph.D. in Computer Science or related field from a recognized institution
• Appropriate academic professional qualifications as required
• A minimum of 3 years of Information Technology and/or Information Systems
teaching/training experience in an applied educational environment at a
tertiary level
• At least 3 years of relevant industry experience
• Experience in developing course curriculum as per accreditation and
international standards
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a demonstrated
competency to interact with people at all levels of the organization
• Have current knowledge of industry practices, trends and issues
FACULTY POSITION (HEALTH SCIENCES_HIM) @HCT

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS
• A Master's Degree in Health Informatics/e-Health/ MBA is required
• Undergraduate coursework in Health Information Management (HIM) /
Medical Records Administration (MRA) also required.
• A minimum of 3 years of Health Information Management or Health
Informatics teaching/training experience at a tertiary level with specific
experience in teaching ICD-10-CA or ICD -10-AM
• At least 3 years of relevant industry experience in the Health Information
Management field
• Overseas teaching/training experience to non-native English speakers is
desirable
• Fluency in written and spoken English is essential. Fluency in written and
spoken Arabic is desirable
FACULTY POSITION (MARINE TRANSPORT ENGINEERING TECH &
SCIENCE) @HCT

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS
• STCW Certificate of Competency as Master Mariner (over 500GT) or equivalent
with a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant dscipline
• Minimum 5 years of seagoing experience as a Deck Officer with at least 1 year
as Chief Mate
• Must be able to provide instruction at various levels within the program areas
• Effective presentation skills, both theoretical and practical
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a demonstrated
competency to interact with people at all levels of the organization
• Evidence of a personal professional development plan with a membership to
an internationally recognized professional association being preferred

• A high degree of computer literacy and demonstrated ability to integrate technology into the

• PhD Degree in Applied media or relevant discipline from an approved institution
• Holders of Master of Fine Arts with 5 years of relevant experience may apply
• A minimum of 3 years teaching experience in one or more of the Applied Media disciplines
(Graphic Design, Animation, Video Production, and Corporate and Media Communication)
• Applicable relevant industry experience is preferred

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
•Keep abreast of developments in the field by engaging in professional
development activities as required by professional organizations or to promote
HCT's reputation in specific areas as approved by his/her Supervisor
•Travel to other HCT colleges to attend meetings, workshops and conferences as
required
Faculty are assigned to participate in system-wide calendared professional
development activities twice during the academic year. The tentative schedule
for professional development is given below:

• Supports faculty and students in resourcing and implementation phase of student projects, as required
• Maintains a schedule of preventative maintenance for all equipment and keeps adequate manuals and
maintenance logs for equipment and parts.
• Perform teaching duties as required.
• Demonstrate the use of machines, tools and equipment within the lab.
• Maintain consumable materials store and ensures adequate inventory levels for supplies.
• Maintains systems and procedures to track borrowed equipment and tools
• Observes and reinforces safety and housekeeping procedures and protocol within the laboratory
• Contributes to the development of the HCT by observing and implementing college and system-wide
policies and procedures, and by participating in extra-curricular activities and community events
• Travels to other HCT colleges to attend meetings, workshops and conferences as required
• Coordination with other Engineering Programs.
• Follows through the financial aspects with the finance department concerning purchases for projects
LAB ASSISTANT (ENGINEERING)@HCT

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE


Qualification: Bachelors degree in relevant field

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Qualification: Bachelors degree in relevant field
• Design templates for online courses and collaborate with the faculty on the analysis, design and development of
the online learning material
• Monitor programs and identify areas for improvement by observing and implementing College and system wide
policies and procedures
• Implement the development programmes for new and continuing faculty members
• Conduct development sessions
• Design tutorials for online course development and delivery
• Provide support in the development of training manuals
• Review and recommend new technologies related to learning and online learning; evaluates the scope and
resources required for new technology implementation
• Conduct professional development sessions in the use of Educational Technology tools and strategies to support
teaching and learning
• Manage the design of web-based material
• Mentor and train on various Education Technology modules from the central EdTech PD Framework
• Schedule and manage online exam support
• Provide recommendations about new technologies related to learning and online learning as well as the

• Serve as an advisor for online course development and the creation of educational podcasts

SPECIALIST TWT (ED TECH) @HCT
ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Qualification: Bachelors degree in relevant field (Teaching with Technology)
• Design professional development content and course guides related to education technologies
• Coach faculty on using education technologies to enhance the learning experience of students. This includes
coaching faculty on the use of Blackboard and mobile devices in an education environment, creation of online
assessments, design of online courses and selection of appropriate education technologies to deliver courses,
instructional design, etc.
• Act as a moderator and facilitator for online training courses, contributing in discussion boards, communicating
with participants, answering queries, and marking assessments.
• Work closely with faculty to identify and support in the development of new strategies for embedding learning
technologies within their practice
• Act as a contact point for staff needing advice and support on all matters related to teaching with technology, and
provide guidance to faculty on developing course content which is compatible with education technologies
• Create promotional material and participate in the delivery of presentations and webinars, to promote
professional development opportunities
• Coordinate with Specialist – PD coordinator to collect data/information on faculty regarding areas they need or
would like to improve
• Develop progress reports on the status of professional development programmes as well as overall professional
development statistics
• Keep abreast of emerging technologies as well as innovative and best practices in teaching with technology (e.g.,
use of Tablets in the classroom, developing flexible learning environments).
