1.2.2 Symbols
In this manual, important text passages and notes are marked throughout by symbols and special
typefaces.
Danger: Dangers presented by rotating parts. Do not touch any of these parts while the unit is
running.
Danger: Dangers due to heat. Do not touch any of these parts while the unit is running. Only
touch them after they have cooled down.
Danger: Dangers due to electrical energy. Do not touch these parts unless the power supply of
the device has been disconnected.
Danger: Dangers due to radiation. Never point the laser either directly or (due to reflecting
surfaces) indirectly at the eyes. Laser radiation can cause irreparable eye damage.
Note: Notes are used for warnings about damage to hardware or software.
Hint: Hint is used for important explanations on the proper use of the device or software.
2 Safety Instructions
The turnstile DKZ x70i has been subjected to comprehensive safety tests. Operating personnel will
be advised of possible residual dangers during system training courses and by the information
provided in this manual.
The devices may only be used for the purposes intended by the manufacturer.
Unauthorized modifications to the equipment as well as the use of replacement parts and
accessories not approved by the manufacturer may result in electrical shock and injury. Any
such measures would therefore lead to an exclusion of liability.
Setup, installation, maintenance, and configuration of system units may only be carried out by
certified electricians who have special training in accident prevention.
The technician in charge, technician carrying out the work, or the project manager is
responsible for the unit being installed and configured in compliance with the technical
guidelines set out in the country of installation as well as any other applicable regional
regulations. Relevant parameters include - among others - cable dimensions, protection against
risks, earth connection, deactivation, disconnection, insulation testing and overcurrent
protection.
Danger: Electric installation and maintenance work may be carried out only by appropriately
qualified, licensed electricians. Network connections must be hardwired. Please ensure full
compliance with all applicable national and international rules and regulations concerning electric
connections, and all applicable safety regulations.
Danger: Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) events can harm electronic components. Under certain
conditions, ESD may build up on your body or an object, such as a peripheral, and then discharge
into another object. To prevent ESD damage, you should discharge static electricity from your
body before you interact with electronic components.
This turnstile is state-of-the-art and has been designed and manufactured in compliance with
acknowledged safety rules and norms. However, dangers to material assets, the public, or
maintenance personnel cannot be ruled out completely. The turnstile may only be used:
Danger: Small children might be in danger of being hit in the back of the head by the
automatically controlled turnstile bar.
This danger can be minimized by deactivating the drive of the turnstile. This can be done by both
service and operating personnel.
Activating automatic control of the barrier arms facilitates the process of passing through the
turnstile, as it requires no force on the part of the user.
Danger: The turnstile DKZ x70i ADA, which has only one bar, the automatic control function
cannot be deactivated. The use of this model therefore requires additional measures to minimize
the risk of injury to small children. Such measures might include multi-lingual warning messages,
pictograms, etc, to caution accompanying adults against the danger.
Note: Handicapped accessible turnstile DKZx70i ADA; the access is constructed as specified in
appendix A of 28 CFR ch. 1 part 36.
Danger: Make sure that the device is completely disconnected from the network! When the gear
casing is open: Worm drive in the gear casing: Danger of crushing fingers – turn off the turnstile
unit during maintenance work or avoid reaching into the gear casing while the barrier arms are
rotating.
When maintenance work is performed on the turnstile unit, the access area must be cordoned
off.
To provide adequate means for securing the danger area around the turnstile unit and to
caution against remaining safety hazards.
To restrict handling of the turnstile unit to authorized personnel who have been properly
instructed in the operation of the turnstile and who have been advised of possible dangers by
way of training received by SKIDATA and the study of the safety regulations and notes
contained in this documentation.
To ensure safety around the access area.
To ensure that the required system maintenance tasks are carried out regularly.
The safety and warning devices in the turnstile’s danger zone must always be in proper and
flawless condition.
Warning and information signs are to be kept in readable condition.
This turnstile is only intended for use at person entry and exit points.
The turnstile can be released manually or automatically, if used together with a device for verifying
access permissions. Skiers can pass the turnstile with skis on. In case of gondola lifts, skis can be
carried through the turnstile gate in the hands.
Any other use is not deemed as the intended use. SKIDATA AG is not liable for any damages
caused by such improper use.
Alignment of the turnstile: This symbol denotes the alignment of the turnstile. It is found on the
left side beside the corresponding illustration.
If the turnstile gates are to be used by persons with skis on, an access path of at least two ski
lengths and a guide rail adapted to the width of the turnstile should be provided in front of the
turnstiles. The access area in front of the readers should be constructed so as to make access to
turnstiles at high speeds impossible. If the turnstile is to be used at ski lifts, the access area should
be plane or slightly downward-sloping. Even a slight upward slope can cause a significant
reduction of the passage frequency.
Hint: Note that the layout of the access gates is subject to ÖNORM V 5959 Access Control
Devices for Person Traffic - Turnstiles (this applies only in Austria).

Control PCB sd420 Locking screws
Trim the cables and connect them to the phoenix clamps on the sd420 board, as shown in the
terminal plan (Table 1: Terminal Connections on sd420).
When trimming the network and power supply cables, remember to leave sufficient slack to allow
for proper strain relief.
If no external power source is available and galvanic separation is not required, terminal X8 can
be used for the required 24 V DC supply.
The 24 V DC supply voltage (X1) may vary by up to 3 V DC.
The max. power consumption of the turnstile unit is 1.5 A.
The GND and BL signals on the sd420 control circuit board are DC coupled.
The release signal must be present until the feedback signal is sent
(the time of release of the feedback signal can be adjusted as required).
The feedback signal is reset as soon as the next locking position is reached
(GND level).
The duration of the feedback signal is at least 10 ms.
The X8 connection of sd420 units used for ADA turnstiles has a sticker that reads Var.Einarm-
ADA. The scope of delivery of a complete ADA turnstile also contains the ADA version of sd420.

Pressing the button for the emergency shutdown (or another external signal) will actuate an opener
that interrupts the power circuit. This in turn interrupts the holding effect of the magnetic field. As a
result, the turnstile bars fold down, allowing for free passage through the gate.
Note: This kind of wiring is only aimed for the option Escape Mechanism.
Any attempt to pass through the locked gate by forcibly turning the turnstile’s barrier arms will be
detected automatically. An alarm siren (connected to X7) will sound.
Voltage Max. 24 V DC
Note: Always make sure that wires (especially unconnected ones) are positioned under the sd420
control circuit board and that they are kept away from rotating parts (i.e. motor and gearwheels,
position generator).

Turnstile drum
Hint: When mounting the release pin, make sure the dished side is at the side of the turnstile
drum.
Remove the locking pin from the release mechanism – the bars will fold down
The exact locking position of the turnstile bars can be adjusted in the gearbox. To be able to do
this, a supply current must be applied to terminal X1.
Danger: Danger of bruising inside release mechanism - Please follow the instructions below
closely.
Tension the release mechanism and secure by means of locking pin (for safety purposes this is
also recommended if the supply current of the retention magnet is present at terminal X 16).
Adjust turnstile bars as required and check their position.
Remove power connector from terminal X1
Loosen the 3 locking screws on the adjustment disk (if necessary, rotate turnstile drum
manually until fixing screws are accessible).
Adjustment procedure: Turn the adjustment disk as illustrated in Fig. 38 and keep temporarily in
position by fastening one locking screw
Reattach supply current connector to terminal X1. This will cause the turnstile drum to rotate to
the next locking position. Check the position of the turnstile bars.
If necessary, repeat adjustment procedure until bars are in desired position.
When adjustment is complete, fasten all three locking screws.
Remove the locking pin.
4.8.7 Relay for releasing the turnstile via the software (Handshake Monitor)
