The Department of Medical Technology of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Santo
Tomas dedicates to generate, advance, and transmit knowledge to form competent and
compassionate Medical Technology professionals committed to the service of the Church, the
nation, and the global community.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Medical Technology is a branch of laboratory medicine dealing with the examination of the body
fluids and tissues with the use of various chemical, microscopic and bacteriological methods. It
involves the application of natural, physical, and biological sciences on the performance of
laboratory procedures, which aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease and the maintenance
of health.

More than fifty years after its recognition as a degree program, the Bachelor of Science in
Medical Technology has trained students to become globally competitive and competent in
various areas of laboratory science. It now takes pride as one of the country’s leading institutions
for Medical Technology, being a Center of Excellence recognized by the Commission on Higher
Education (CHEd), receiving the Level III re-accredited status from the Philippine Association
of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA), and having its
graduates qualified to take the international certification given by American Medical
Technologists (AMT) and by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ACSP).
