CBAA Variety Show 2017

General Contests Rules and Mechanics

1. The CBAA Literary Competitions 2017 will be held at the Academic Complex of the
MSU College of Law on March 2, 2017.
2. The participants must be at the venue 20 minutes before their event schedule. Participants
shall be not be allowed to be late. They must be complete in case of group presentations.
Otherwise such participant/team shall be disqualified.
3. There shall be a call for participants 20 minutes and 10 minutes prior each event.
4. Each participant should observe proper and appropriate attire.
5. The decision of the board of judges is final and irrevocable.
6. There shall be a Literary Committee Chaired by the College Secretary, assisted by the
BAASC Prime Minister, BAASC Deputy Prime Minister and the BAASC Minister for
Academics or their designate, which shall oversee the organization of the whole event.
EXTEMPORANEOUS SPEAKING
1. The event is open to all bona fide and currently enrolled CBAA students in MSU Main
for the 2nd Semester of the Academic Year 2016-2017 who wish to represent their
respective department.
2. Each department shall have one (1) contestant.
3. The medium of language to be used is ENGLISH only.
4. Contestants must be in their semi-formal or business attire, except their department
uniforms.
5. The contest will be held on February 26 at the designated venue.
6. The topic/theme of the speech shall be randomly selected based on the chosen number of
the contestant.
7. A question will be picked by the contestant and he/she will be given 3 minutes to
formulate and finalize his/her speech.
8. After three minutes, the contestant must deliver their thoughts with a minimum of 3
minutes and a maximum of 5 minutes.
9. The official time keeper shall sound 2 bells and raise a yellow flag upon reaching the 3-
minute mark, and 3 bells and a red flag for the 5-minute mark.
10. At the end of each speech, the official timekeeper shall announce the speaking time of the
speaker.
11. In cases of excess or insufficiency per the designated time allotment, a deduction of 2
points in the final overall score shall be the penalty.
12. The board of adjudicators will determine the winners using the following criteria:

Content/Relevance to the Topic - 40%


Organization - 30%
Grammar and Delivery - 30%
TOTAL 100%

13. In case of a tie, another common topic will be given to the concerned finalists. The same
procedure and criteria will be adopted.
14. Declaration of winners and awarding shall be during the Awarding Ceremonies of the
College at the Dimaporo Gymnasium on March 2, 2017.
ORATION

1. The event is open to all bona fide and currently enrolled CBAA students in MSU Main
for the 2nd Semester of the Academic Year 2016-2017 who wish to represent their
respective department.
2. Each department shall have one (1) contestant.
3. The medium of language to be used is ENGLISH only.
4. Contestants must be in their semi-formal or business attire, except their department
uniforms.
5. The contest will be held on February 26 at the designated venue.
6. The contestants shall have the privilege to choose their own piece. It must be submitted
to the Literary Committee at least one (1) day prior the contest proper.
7. The contestant shall be given a minimum of three (5) minutes and a maximum of five
(7) minutes to perform his/her speech.
8. At the end of each speech, the official timekeeper shall announce the speaking time of the
speaker.
9. In cases of excess or insufficiency per the designated time allotment, a deduction of 2
points in the final overall score shall be the penalty.
10. The contestants shall be judged according to the following criteria:

Delivery (Style, voice, gestures, pronunciation) 40%


Content and Organization 20%
Mastery 20%
Manner and Stage Presence 20%
TOTAL 100%

15. Declaration of winners and awarding shall be during the Awarding Ceremonies of the
College at the Dimaporo Gymnasium on March 2, 2017.
DECLAMATION
1. The event is open to all bona fide and currently enrolled CBAA students in MSU Main
for the 2nd Semester of the Academic Year 2016-2017 who wish to represent their
respective department.
2. Each department shall have one (1) contestant.
3. The medium of language to be used is ENGLISH only.
4. The contestants have the privilege to choose their own piece.
5. The piece must be submitted to the Literary Committee at least one (1) day prior the
contest proper.
6. The piece should be computerized:

a. In one point five-spacing (1.5)


b. In Arial font style, size 14.
c. On short coupon bond paper; and
d. With a maximum number of three pages

7. The name of the participant and the department he/she representing should not appear on
any page of the piece.
8. Participants must be in their semi-formal or business attire, except their department
uniforms.
9. The contestant shall be given a minimum of three (3) minutes and a maximum of five (5)
minutes to perform his/her speech.
10. At the end of each speech, the official timekeeper shall announce the speaking time of the
speaker.
11. In cases of excess or insufficiency per the designated time allotment, a deduction of 2
points in the final overall score shall be the penalty.
12. The following are not allowed on the stage:

a. wet props like water, fuel, paint and the like


b. Real knife, revolver, sword or any sharp or dangerous paraphernalia.

13. Two minutes shall be allotted for the clearing of the stage after the performance.
Violation of this rule shall penalize with a deduction of 5 points in the final overall score.
14. No microphone shall be provided.
15. The contestants shall be judged according to the following criteria:

Mastery of the Piece 30%


Delivery 30%
Gestures and Facial Expressions 15%
Costume 15%
Overall Impact 10%
Total 100%
16. Declaration of winners and awarding shall be during the Awarding Ceremonies of the
College at the Dimaporo Gymnasium on March 2, 2017.
ESSAY WRITING (FILIPINO & ENGLISH)
1. The event is open to all bona fide and currently enrolled CBAA students in MSU Main
for the 2nd Semester of the Academic Year 2016-2017 who wish to represent their
respective department.
2. Each department shall have one (1) contestant.
3. The contest will be held on February 26 at the designated venue.
4. The topic/theme of the essay will only be given on the exact date of the competition.
5. The contestants must deliver their thoughts with minimum words of 250 and a maximum
of 500 words within the time allotted for them
6. Shall there be any complaint, the contestant may approach the facilitator of the event
during the time of the event only.
7. The board of judges will determine the winners using the following criteria:

Content/Relevance to the topic 40%


Organization 30%
Grammar 30%
TOTAL 100%

8. Declaration of winners and awarding shall be during the Awarding Ceremonies of the
College at the Dimaporo Gymnasium on March 2, 2017.
