Evaluation Metrics for User Centered System Design

User experience can be viewed in 3 parts.

Look Make a product interesting and fun to use.


A designer must emphasize on the user experiences and
Feel feelings while using a product.

Usability: Refers to the ease of access and use of a product.

User experience complements usability with the aesthetical and emotional aspects Look
and Feel. It shows the whole experience being lived while using a product or application.

The following needs are tried to be satisfied by the designer in the evaluation process.

 Visibility of a product, aesthetic and minimalist design

 User control and freedom

 Consistency and standards

 Preventing user errors

 Recovering from errors


There are some examples that how some of the evaluation metrics can be checked?

Security. How are the system and its data protected against attacks?

Usability. How easy is it for a customer to use the system?

Learnability. How fast is it for users to complete the main actions once they see the
interface?

Efficiency. How quickly users can reach their goals?

Memorability. Can users return to the interface after some time and start efficiently working
with it right away?

Errors. How often do users make mistakes?

Satisfaction. Is the design pleasant to use?

Some questions may be asked to the user during the evaluation process.

eg. Which feature of a product is fun?

Which detail of a product is meaningful for the users?

Which feature of a product give confidence, control or effectivity to the user?
