ROMA Publications 2020 ISBN 9789492811752 Acqn 30767
Pb 16x22cm 816pp col ills £48

Between 2014 and 2019, Ari Marcopoulos documented the Conrad McRae Youth League
Tournament at Dean Street Playground in Brooklyn, New York. Players from age six and older
can participate in the tournament, which features some of the best high school basketball players
from the greater New York City area. His individual and group portraits of the players, staff, and
audience are interspersed with action-filled shots of the games, while the tournament jersey with
its small "Jumpman" logo (inspired by Michael Jordan) becomes the series' predominant theme.
In both posed and candid shots we see players poised, ready to hit the court, or sweating in the
summer heat.

Olaf Nicolai - All Our Suns

ROMA Publications 2020 ISBN 9789492811745 Acqn 30705
Pb 25x30cm 120pp col ills £36

Every image in 'All Our Suns' is taken from Olaf Nicolai's collection of pictures of outer space that
have been printed in daily newspapers. These images suggest a high degree of objectivity,
though technological settings as well as individual wishes and imaginings determine the result of
the depiction. The collection is based on a fascination with spectacular pictures and an interest in
image-generating procedures. Yet it is also triggered by the temporally paradoxical entanglement
of daily news on Earth and extraterrestrial occurrences. The book collects traces of a possible
audience out there looking down on our sceneries here.

Mark Manders - The Absence Of Mark Manders, Bonnefanten

ROMA Publications 2020 ISBN 9789072251831 Acqn 30684
Pb 22x29cm 144pp col ills £37.50

A catalogue of the extensive retrospective exhibition 'The Absence of Mark Manders' at the
Bonnefanten Museum, Maastricht. The rooms in the exhibition can be regarded as the spaces of
the artist's ongoing work 'Self-portrait as a building'. The works have been "left behind" by the
artist in three different zones: the visitor enters a living room, then the museum, and finally the
studio. According to Manders, all of these works are interchangeable and can be put into a
different context, "like words in a sentence can also be used in different combinations". A text by
Douglas Fogle focuses on the role of language in Manders's oeuvre.

Giorgio Andreotta Calo – Anastasis

ROMA Publications 2020 ISBN 9789492811622 Acqn 30757
Bx 24x33cm 112pp col ills £48

'Anastasis (Heilig Graf)' is an art intervention by Giorgio Andreotta Calo, designed for the Holy
Sepulchre Chapel in Amsterdam's Oude Kerk and connected to its rich history. The site-specific
work drastically alters the church's interior, bathing visitors in red light. Late in the evening the red
light from the church coalesces with light from the plentiful brothels and prostitution windows
surrounding the church. The Oude Kerk is situated in the midst of the city's crowded Red Light
District, and its stained glass windows with their vibrant colours (including red) were destroyed in
the Calvinist iconoclasm of 1566. This publication on Calo's work offers a deep insight into its
creation.
