Our lifestyles are less healthy than our grandparents’

A healthy lifestyle has become very popular these days. Looking at the wonders of modern
medicine and the wide variety of healthy diets, it is easy to decide that we live much longer than
our ancestors. Although it is true, personally, I think that our generation is less healthy, morally
and physically, than previous generations.

I agree that we consist of what we eat and it is the main reason. Nowadays many people
prefer junk food instead of home cooked to home made. On the contrary, our grandparents ate
only seasonal vegetables and fruits and those the food that grew in their area. Artificial meat
and sweeteners, food with chemicals or preservatives and genetically modified food did not
exist in those times days.

Another important point is the environment. For instance,

previous generations did not live in such polluted environment. They spent a lot of time outside,
slept well, inhaled clean air and as a result their immunity was much stronger than ours.

It is often claimed that rapid technological progress makes our lives easier. For example,
now there are a lot of kitchen appliances that help us cut, cook and wash, that greatly saves our
time and energy. I agree that the development of medicine has saved lives. But on the other
hand, the huge flow of information that we receive every day fills our lives with stress, which
leads to serious diseases like depression and others. These days people have become more
isolated, less mobile, prefer virtual communication to real, they can even get all basic needs
without leaving home. All this things make us feel unhappy and be less healthy.

To sum up, I believe that, in general, our lifestyles are getting worse. However, despite all
the difficulties of modern life we have to lead a healthy and active lifestyle, protect the
environment, spend more time in the fresh air with family and friends and get rid of bad habits.
