Phrasal verbs:

1. Take in: Absorb information, deceive, make clothes smaller, assume care or
support
2. Give away: Entrust your daughter to her husband through the marriage
ceremony; Tell a secret, often unintentionally; Distribute something for free;
Give without asking for or expecting payment; Give an advantage to your
opponent in a sport by making a mistake, playing badly, etc; Give an unwanted
baby to people to bring up; Betray, report to authorities
3. Give up: Stop doing something that has been a habit; Stop being friendly, end
relationships; Stop doing something; Surrender, stop trying; Sacrifice or
dedicate time, etc, to something (I gave up all my free time to the project);
Allow someone to sit in your chair, take your place, etc;
4. Work up: to develop an emotional or physical state that you feel strongly, after
a period of effort or time
5. Work out: end nicely; Find the answer or solution
6. Put down: Kill an animal because it's old, ill, etc; Stop holding (but withdraw
support gently)
7. Put up: Allow someone to stay at your house for a night or a few days; Increase
prices, taxes, duties, etc; Show skill or determination in a contest, competition,
fight, etc
8. Get on with: Continue doing something; Make progress, deal with something
with a reasonable degree of success; Have a good relationship
9. Get up to: Do something wrong or naughty
10. Go down with: fall ill; be accepted
11. Go in for: Enter a competition or sit an exam; Support, advocate; Like, have an
interest in; Make a career choice
