CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION TO INDUSTRIAL TRAINING

1.1 Industrial Training Background

As we know industry training is part of the syllabus for all Polytechnic students in
Malaysia. In fact it is one of the compulsory subjects for all students as a condition for
obtaining certificate or Diploma. The main importance of industrial training is to expose
students to the working environment in industry. So, it will enable students to understand
the theories studied with more detailed and hands on practice within a real job situation.
It’s a compulsory subject for all final year students in Diploma in Information Technology
specialized as Information Security. To fulfil the course’s requirement, students have to
complete the training period for 6 months or can be said for one semester. The industrial
training has 10 credits hours with duration of 20 weeks, which started from 10 December
2018 to 26 April 2018.

Through this industrial training, all students will be given exposure fully within the real
job situation. In addition, it can help students to gain their self-confidence and discover
their own ability. It can also be a preparation or a preview to working environment later in
future. In addition, students also participate in team work from different ages in which we
need more mature and open-minded when at work. Students will also be able to familiarize
themselves with receiving the advice and comply with all directions given employers and
able to do a job that is entrusted with complete besides being responsible and dedicated
employees.

1
Each of every students have to find for any organization to undergo their internship
period. Students have been given six months of time, which is in semester five, to go
through online sources such as Job Street to make a place for them in any organization.
This is student’s choice to select suitable organization for their internship. Selection of
organization must be related to the course which completed by students at Politeknik
METrO Tasek Gelugor.

After end of semester five, every students will receive offer letter or confirmation invoice
from the organization or company that they applied for. Date to make self-report in that
organization is 10 December 2018 @ 8:00am. A supervisor will be appointed for students
to supervise and to be responsible for observing student’s daily work at the organization.
Supervisors have to go through student’s log book and sign every week. Log book is
provided for each and every students to record their daily task given. The log book will be
provided by Politeknik METrO Tasek Gelugor. After undergoing internship, students are
required to write final report.

2
1.2 Industrial Training Objectives

Industrial Training is a requirement for the award of the Certificate or Diploma which is
compulsory for every student before qualified to be considered. Each student must pass
Industrial Training before entering the next semester. Students who failed must repeat the
Industrial Training. The objective of this industry training is to empower students to carry
out the best-performing tasks as well as to see how far a student is applying what has been
learned in the given task.

Here I want to clarify some of the objectives of the industrial training. Industrial training
exposes students to work nature. While undergoing industrial training, students will be
exposed to new things for students with a real atmosphere in ag totally different workplace
compared to the politics of knowledge. Many new skills acquired and added student’s skills
while undergoing industrial training. In the face of changing circumstances, students need
to learn how to adapt to work, timeliness to work in the workplace, the ability to
communicate well among staff and the most important, and self-discipline.

Other than that, every students need to adhere to the safety rule at organization. Safety in
the industry is the most important thing to all employees. Complying with safety should
not be viewed as easy and easy because the equipment used in the industrial sector is mostly
harmful and can injure a person can even involve the life of the employee. By adhering to
safety regulations during the training of the industry, pre-students are also able to convince
themselves of the challenges that they will face during their work and control themselves
in various challenging situations during their work.

Besides that, through industry training that has been accomplished, students can also
practice theoretical knowledge and skills they have learned to do their work or to carry out
a given task and to add new knowledge about the use of the latest technologies. Through
industrial training also, direct exposure is essential for students in improving their
knowledge in the field of polytechnics. Although there are some things that are not related
to the field of study but it is a new experience and knowledge for polytechnic students
undergoing industrial training.

3
Hence, In the course of this industrial training, students will be trained and exposed to
the attitudes that must be demonstrated and practiced by every student during industrial
training. The attitude that has been applied to students during this industrial training is the
attitude of trust and responsibility in doing a job. This is what will make the students a
quality and productive worker in the field to work in the future.

1.3 Industrial Training Report Objectives

The purpose of this report is to show that one of the evidence shows that the
students have undergone industrial training in accordance with the procedure, the suitability
of the field studied by students in Politeknik METrO Tasek Gelugor and the commitment
of students to industrial training. On the other hand, the writing of this report can also be
classified as a work paper with respect to the exercise performed. The reports contained in
this industry training are divided into two: Daily Reports (daily logs) and Final Training
Reports (final report).

Here I want to clarify some of the objectives of the final industrial training report.
First objective of industrial training report is to train students to provide a complete training
report while undergoing industrial training. This also helps students to provide a complete
training report while undergoing industrial training.

In addition, the objective of this industry exercise report booklet is also to help the
organization's employees assess each student's training that is undergoing industry training
in their place. Industrial training report playing role as evidence or written evidence of a
student undergoing industrial training as specified. In order for students to understand better
of any procedures and protocols in the field of work in which they work. Can be used as
reference material after completion of industrial training.

4
1.4 Industrial Training Significant

Conducting industrial training is a mandatory requirement for every Polytechnic

student. It must be completed by a student pursuing a Diploma course. Overall, industrial
training can deepen knowledge and exploit the students' skills in the field of study. This is
because students can practice all the theories that they learned in polytechnics. At the same
time, it also exposes students to the real world of work and gives students the opportunity
to adapt to their workplace professionals.

While undergoing Industrial Training for 6 months, students are not only exposed
to the work environment but also can practice any theories and practices learned in
Polytechnic. While in Polytechnic, students are exposed in general and practical but by
undergoing this industrial training students are also able to expose students about the
atmosphere and build self-confidence in the real world of work.

In addition, students are able to further strengthen their technological skills

acquiring knowledge from skilled and experienced individuals in any field and using their
expertise. While undergoing industrial training, students can expand their scope of work
based on the courses taken and can develop high self-discipline among students. Industrial
training can also train learners to make creative and critical decisions when pursuing the
nature of work. In addition, can train students how to communicate and interact with
employers, other individual employees in official or informal matters.

The industrial training is also important so that students are not afraid to face any
mistakes when doing work. The importance of industrial training is to enable students’ self-
discipline in terms of employment, such as the arrival and timeliness, diligence and interest
in the work performed, accepting and carrying out the instructions properly, having a proper
personality with the work carried out, having good communication skills, able to adapt to
the given task, improve the quality of work based on experience and so on. The Importance
of Industrial Training is not just about every job because an organization needs skilled
workers to improve the quality of the organization's achievement.

CHAPTER 2

ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND

2.1 Overview of Organization

The late Tan Sri Konosuke Matsushita founded the Matsushita companies. The Matsushita
miracle began with his vision to contribute to the well-being of mankind by providing
reasonably-priced products and services in sufficient quantities.Today that vision has
turned into a giant global business in more than 130 countries around the world.

The famous brand name ‘Panasonic‘ is easily recognised. But behind this popular
household name and the extensive range of consumer durables that carry its label stands its
manufacturer, the foundation of the brand’s success, Panasonic Manufacturing Malaysia
Berhad – PMMA.

The PMMA story in Malaysia is an inspirational one made remarkable and reflected in its
string of proud achievements that have successfully spanned two decades. Being the first
plant to manufacture household electrical appliances in Malaysia, the Company confidently
took on its parent company in Japan.

Throughout the years, the corporation has observed a swift progress from its humble start
as producer of dry-cell batteries to Malaysia’s leading manufacturer of sophisticated
electrical appliances.

6
Today, the Panasonic brand name has emerged as one of the most welcome and trusted
brand names for electrical home appliances chosen by most Malaysian households. At
Panasonic, we manufacture, operate, deliver, and maintain a series of product range with
globally competitive models under the Panasonic brand name to the market, incorporating
new features, enhanced capability and improved quality, and equally important, with our
excellent after-sales-services.

Panasonic Manufacturing Malaysia Berhad(PMMA) was officially opened on 11 May1967

as a home appliance manufacturer. The company was also listed on the Bursa Saham Kuala
Lumpur (BSKL). The company started its operation in 1965.

2.2 Origin of the word ‘PANASONIC’ & Founder of the PANASONIC

The legacy bequeathed by our founder the late Tan Sri Konosuke Matsushita is both
inspirational and exemplary. Much of the inspiration is provided in his humble beginnings
as a struggling young businessman peddling adaptor sockets that initially no one wanted to
buy.

The then 25-year old budding entrepreneur would not be daunted by failure. Instead, he
bounded back through sheer resolve and a new idea. Putting himself in the shoes of the
buyer, he produced something which the buyer actually wanted.

The appearance of an improved, two-way socket and attachment plugs handier than
anything else in the market proved to be the turning point in his career. Konosuke
Matsushita had at last found his true calling.

Matsushita Electric Appliance Factory was then established on March 7, 1918, in Osaka
and today, Matsushita’s achievements speak louder than words. The company has grown
into a global giant with an active and well-trained workforce around the globe.
7
Throughout his life, Konosuke Matsushita had believed that certain fundamentals must
remain unchanged. Thus, a unique management philosophy was evolved, the Basic
Business Philosophy that govern the management of Matsushita Electric. It is based on the
premise that any business is indebted to society because it uses society’s resources – people,
capital, real estate and many other services. Therefore, he maintains, the primary role of a
business should be to serve society in return for having had the use of society’s resources.

The Panasonic brand name was created in 1955 and was first used as a brand for audio
speakers. It is a combination of the words, "Pan", and "Sonic", sound and has a meaning of
bringing sound our Company creates to the world.

Since 2008, it is used as the corporate brand representing the Company, products and
services.

“Recognising our responsibilities as industrialist, we will devote ourselves to the progress

and development of society and the well being of people through our business activities,
thereby enhancing the quality of life throughout the world.”

Company Creed – expresses the basic attitude of employees to their daily work

“Progress and development can only be realised through the combined efforts and
cooperation of each employee of our company. United in spirit, we pledge to perform our

CHAPTER 4

Technical report

4.1 Windows 10 Migration and Format PC

Windows 10 migration is a project for all Site IT’s to work on and will be evaluated
by the manager levels. I was also included into this project as our department head is
expecting a number of users to migrate to Windows 10 by the quarter end. Windows 10 is
fast and user friendly. It also helps the workflow of the user. It is pleasant looking, not
cluttered, organized and improved by performance. IT Helpdesk team are trying to push as
many updates to user’s to migrate their machine from Windows 7 to Windows 10 or
upgrade windows 10 version such as windows 10 version 1607 to windows 10 version
1709. As per my training period, we finally managed to complete as much as possible.

Formatting a drive isn't just for fixing a broken computer; you can use it to handle any
number of routine computer maintenance tasks. As such, formatting a drive is appropriate
for some situations while not being right for others. Just because your computer came with
Windows doesn't mean you're stuck with it; you might want to change to a competing
operating system. You also might need to upgrade an old computer to a newer operating
system. Whatever the case, if you want to get a fresh start with a new OS, formatting is the
way to go. It removes previous system files and settings and ensures that you're not bringing
any old bloatware or malware over from your old OS.

29
4.2 Roles and responsibilities

Everyone has the same roles and responsibility. We first have to check if the machine is
compatible to run Windows 10. Secondly, the specific PC name and the model cpu core
used has to be synced into the server in order to run the installation. This is because all
PANASONIC’s laptop needs to have PANASONIC’s own modified Windows 10 image
which is standardized for all departments. Depending on the user, we need to perform a
backup for the user so that we don’t lose any important data and should restore back after
the migration. Then our Infra team in Information System Department has configured few
flash drives for us to perform the installation with the configuration manager. After the
installations are 100% done, we must reinstall all the default software from the server
locally. For the final touch, a few tweaks with the settings and it’s all done. The user may
continue to do their work after that. The crucial task is that we should setup pc after
upgrading it on time so that the user’s workflow will not be affected in anyway despite if
we were having server issues or some technical issues.

30
4.2.1 Step on upgrade windows 10 version 1709 – 1809

Step 1: Starting the Upgrade Using the ISO File

If you are running Windows 8.1 or later, you can mount the ISO file by double clicking on
it then launch setup manually. Users running Windows 7 or earlier, will need to create a
bootable copy using disc burning software or third party utilities.

Windows 10 – Click Start > File Explorer > This PC > double click the drive containing
the setup file

CHAPTER 5

INSTALLATION OF DOMAIN SOFTWARE

5.1 Description of Old JP 1 Software

JP1 is a family of software products for the integrated management of systems and
operations. JP1 supports systems and operations by making use of relevant technologies
and know-how that have been cultivated by Hitachi over many years.

To increase their competitiveness and survive in the coming era, companies need people
who have the power of imagination, and who can absorb a variety of information and know-
how and then use their accumulated expertise to create new value and new services. With
the shrinking workforce and insufficient number of IT engineers, however, it is difficult to
secure new talent. The IT human resources who are involved in operations management
are expected to contribute to the improvement of corporate value, as IT professionals who
are indispensable for business.

With the goal of achieving IT operations that do not rely on human operators, JP1
Version 12 manages, in an integrated manner, all types of data about IT systems, as well as
the relationships in the data, even as those systems become more complex and diverse.
With JP1, you can centralize operations and control, and utilize machine learning (AI) to
speed up the autonomization of your IT operations. In short, JP1 facilitates intelligent IT
operations that contribute to your business.

JP1 provides products for Intelligence, Intelligent Monitoring, Intelligent Automation, and
Intelligent Governance to meet your management needs.

COMMENTS AND SUGGESTIONS

8.1 Comments and suggestions for company

From the 20 weeks of industrial training at PANASONIC MANUFACTURING MALAYSIA

BERHAD, observations have been made and I have some suggestions to SONY EMCS
management to further improve the performance of the employees. As I found out, there was
some weakness that need to be change. I hope that the suggestions I made this can be welcome
and help to IT Infra and Service department to be more advanced and known in the future.
Here I have some of the suggestions as per below:

1. Implement a well-organized arrangement plan for practical learners by providing more

organized training schedules so that more things can be learned and avoid focusing on
one task only at a time.

2. The PANASONIC MANUFACTURING MALAYSIA Company should paste a plat

on wall at danger location to mention the user to be careful. All danger location needs
to warn the user to be alert due to working in danger environment.

3. Expose students more to a variety of work so that students can practice all the learned
knowledge as well as the existing experience.

4. Increase the number of employees because there is a lot of work and less workforce.
So because of that, there are other sub-cons and intern students who bear a lot of work.

5. IT member should add location map PANASONIC MANUFACTURING

MALAYSIA for each department at server to the trainees which can help them during
the IT support. The location map can provide useful to IT member for easy to search
for user.

97
8.2 Comments and suggestions for polytechnic

The Industrial Training Course has had a very positive effect on the students to improve the
quality of the work. Students also gain experience in learning various techniques. But for my
opinion there are still some weaknesses in industrial training. Therefore, I would like to
propose some suggestions to further improve the strength of industrial training. Among my
suggestions is:-

1. There are some organizations took the students to undergo industrial training that is not
related with their course. If the place is not suitable, they can switch places with another
related with specified conditions. This is because, there are some cases of not suitable
and related training.

2. Industrial Training Duration is extended to seven (7) or either eight (8) months. With
the extension of this period, I feel that it can increase the experience and teaching of
working life or vice versa.

3. I also propose that the polytechnic can provide flexibility rather long time for students
to prepare and examine the Industrial Training Report. Cooperation extended by the
lecturers also needed in producing high quality and good report.

98
CHAPTER 9

CONCLUSION

The step taken for polytechnic students for Industrial Training is one of intelligent and
effective step. I'm sure many of us are unaware of the organizations / firms that thrive are
starting from administration and management system is perfect, systematic and stable.
Industrial Training conducted indeed provide advantages and benefits compared to the
disadvantages. This program should be continued because it is more beneficial to students and
opportunities for students to understand the real work environment to get the experience of
working in an organization, firm or company in future.

With this Industrial Training, it can give confidence to the students for the real workplace
to be challenging and intelligent use of existing opportunities like this. Such disclosure should
be owned by every student in preparation to compete in a globalized market.

In addition, I gained a wealth of knowledge and it is very valuable and meaningful to me.
Here, I managed to apply almost 100% of knowledge that I have learned at polytechnic during
my Industrial Training. Overall, the Industrial Training can provide useful knowledge to the
students. This is because not only able to produce students who are capable in various fields
can even respond to the government's wanted leavers from education institutions in the country
to lead the country in various fields of economy, science and information technology.
