ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

As my academics and Industrial Attachment experience are success, I express my deepest


appreciation to all those who provided me the opportunity and guidance throughout the Industrial
Attachment. First and foremost, I thank the Almighty for giving me Life and good health
throughout the Industrial Attachment. I cannot wish for anything more from Him. A special
gratitude I give to the CEO, , of Tamale Teaching Hospital(I.T Department), who gave me the
chance of doing Industrial Attachment with this esteem Institution. I say thank you very much
Mr. CEO. To my boss and supervisor, Mr Issah Mohammed Kartu, your
contribution in stimulating suggestions and encouragement is forever going to
guide me in my IT career path, thank you sir. I would also like to acknowledge
with much appreciation the important role of the staff of Tamale Teaching Hospital,
especially, Mr. Suhyini Fuseini Napps, who in spite of his duties, got time to listen,
guide and keep me on the correct path. To Majeed B.Feilu, and my co-interns who
supported and shared their ideas with me throughout the Industrial Attachment

Furthermore, distinguished appreciation also goes to the management of Tamale Technical

University most especially the Head of ICT Department (HOD), Prof. Jebrel Fuseini and all

other lecturers who in one way or the other aid students during the Industrial Attachment and the

initiators who are involved in making Industrial Attachment part of the academic assessment to

enable students gain the aspiring work experience before graduating. I can never forget to

mention my Mom for the support and motivation she gave me,

INTRODUCTION

1.1Background of the Report

As part of my three (3) years HND in Information Technology per the requirement

of the University, it is mandatory for Level 100 students going to level 200 and

Level 200 students going to level 300 the next academic year to perform an

Industrial Attachment. Every student in the university especially Information

Technology Students is to embark on this Industrial Attachment for minimum of

two months to enable them obtain practical industrial experience in the field of

study and also to abreast themselves of the business environment. The report is

written at the end of the Industrial Attachment by the student to the institute which

form part in the awarding of the certificate. I did my Industrial Attachment from

(10th June to 16th august 2019) at Tamale Teaching Hospital. The hospital was

established in 1974 and was formerly known as the Tamale Regional Hospital. It

was to provide various health care services to the people of the three Northern

regions of Ghana namely, the Northern, Upper East and Upper West regions.

BENEFITS TO STUDENTS

The industrial attachment seek to offer student a practical


translation of the theory they have been taught. It has also got
individual benefit of liaising the university to the industries, hence
brightening the employment chance of the student in the
university.

3 Purpose of Attachment/Expected Output

By the requirements of the Tamale Technical University (TaTU) to the award of


degree and diploma certificates, it is a pre-condition that every student upon
moving to the final year undertake an industrial attachment with a selected
organization of their choice. The Industrial Attachment provides students the
opportunity to gather some work experience relevant to their studies and their
professional work field. It helps the student to learn discipline and principles of
working ethics.

The following are the purposes of the Industrial Attachment:

 An Industrial Attachment provides a real life experience and exposure.

It enables the intern to gain first-hand exposure of working in the real

life which is remarkably valuable towards the intern’s career.

 It allows the student to harness the skill, knowledge and theoretical

practice been taught in the university. To provide the students with an

opportunity to apply the knowledge in real work situation thereby

closing the gap between academic work and the actual practice.
 Industrial Attachment teaches young professionals about specific

industries and companies they are interested in, projects their self-

potentials, abilities and shortcoming.

 Get connected, develop professional network and transition to full-time

position.

WORK SCHEDULE
Description of the duties/work performed by the student
During my attachment period I was privileged to help in troubleshooting and
solving some problems relating to computers and electronic devices such as
working on faulty computer components.
I was also privileged to help in the following
 Repair Faulty Computers
 Carryout half a year Maintenance of their computers

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / LEARNING EXPERIENCE ACQUIRED


Professionally, I had the opportunity to practically feel some of the academic
work I acquired from school during the attachment programme.

Personally, my confidence level has improved greatly. My interactions with


officials paved some social contacts for me. Good friends were made, efforts to
understand people and ability to use and manipulate electronic
gadgets. Working under stress conditions could not be overlooked.
PROBLEMS AND CHALLENGES

Personally I have had a few challenges during the attachment period which
includes;

1. The major challenge the intern faced was a new Lifestyle. The Industrial

Attachment gave a new lifestyle to the intern. It made the intern woke up

very early in the morning with the alarm clock at 5:30 am, latest by 6 am to

get ready for work. The intern sat for nine (9) to ten (10) good hours in a day

typing and preparing either reports or doing an online research about a

particular task. Sometimes the intern could close as late as 8:30 pm. The new

life was quite jarring but productive. The hours and the new living situation

clearly made socializing more difficult than before. This challenge later

became normal and part of the intern’s daily life activities as the days moved

on.

2. Transportation: Means of getting to the school was challenging, you either

walk or depend on motorist who are heading towards the school.

Contributions of Student to the Organization

Planning and Providing Internal Controls of Hams. The intern designed a checklist

to track and monitor internal controls in the company and the areas that needs
management’s attention. This task will assist management in tackling the hidden

risk the company has possibility of facing in the near future.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the supervised industrial attachment of the University gives

students the opportunity to apply knowledge in real work, exposing students to

work methods not taught in the University and provide access to products

equipment not available in the Polytechnic as well as assessing students’

interest in the occupation he/she plans to undertake. I gained a lot of experience,

especially in the conducting of internal audit. Before the placement took place,

my ideas did not match the experiences I have gained during my Industrial

Attachment. This Industrial Attachment was definitely an introduction to the

actual work field for me. I have learned to work in a business organization and

apply my knowledge into practice. Deepest gratitude I give to the management

of Tamale Teaching Hospital, most especially the Senior Adminstrative

Manager(I.T), MR. Issah Mohammed Kartu.

Undoubtedly, the impact of this attachment made me gain some practical


knowledge and experiences in my field of study (ICT) as well as enriching me with
the interaction with the business world. It has also instilled in me some more
integrity especially punctuality, being submissive to and taking the views of the
teachers, more tolerant, respectful and hardworking, the programme should
therefore be maintained and the period extended.
Recommendation

 . Supervisors should please visit students on regular basis to ensure proper


assessments of their attachment.
 . The department should try their best to help students locate potential place
of attachment that will indulge student’s field of study.

To TATU Industrial Relation

The industrial relation office and the different departments should connect with

cooperate bodies for Industrial Attachment placement to shun the struggles and

strains students go through before securing places for their attachment.

Objectives

The Industrial Attachment program as a three (3) credit hour course is to provide a
