Digital Media- A miraculous disaster

Honestly, sometimes I wish digital devices and social media had not been invented. Sure, it
helps us in many ways but the disadvantages of social media are increasing. Everyone is
getting a lot lazier and participating less in real time activities. We all know how popular
social media is, especially among teenagers. You could literally go ask any teenager, “Do you
have social media accounts?” They will definitely say yes. I’m not saying that it’s wrong to
browse a little or chat with friends for a while, but the amount of time this generation
spends on social media is beyond belief. They are on it all day long. I may sound like an
annoying adult, but trust me, I too am a teenager and I use social media as well. But it’s
only for a little time of the day. Being on the phone all day, communicating with strangers
online causes your real time communication skills to decrease.

It saddens me to say this but my friends are literally obsessed with these social sites.
Whenever we do a get together, everyone’s always on their phones. All these teenagers
just care about their followers and the amount of likes they can get on their posts.
Communication in real life and playing actual games with friends is the real point of having
fun. But the sad truth is, they don’t understand that.

There are such horrible things happening on these sites like cyber bullying, catfishing,
hoaxes, hacking and what not. But the younger generation is not cautious enough. Some
teenagers nowadays chat with unknown people and even trust them. The unknown people
somehow gain their trust and then when the kids start to tell them more, they immediately
use it against them to blackmail them.

Looking at the screen for too long is also unpleasant in many ways. The radiations of the
screen leads to difficulty in focusing, headaches, blurred visions, dry eyes, and itchy eyes.
These things happen because looking at a screen for an extended period of time causes
you to blink less, which deprives your eyes of moisture.

Nonetheless, I request everyone out there, please enjoy the little things in life instead of
being on your phone all day. Spend more time with your family and friends and tell them
how much you love them because someday, it will be too late.

Digital media is indeed a miraculous disaster.
