We, at NLIU, endeavour to create an interactive, cohesive and unified student community. Every
year we add 128 students to our family and try our best to create a comfortable atmosphere by
providing them the much needed support in terms of academic guidance and insight into law
school goings-on. Everyone here is extremely approachable and eager to assist the other. We

have a diverse student population from all over the country, which makes it an arduous task to
describe a typical student as each student has a unique identifiable persona which has a lot to
offer to the university and to which the university has a lot to offer to. NLIU inevitably occupies
a part of those who become a part of it. Our college is enthusiastic about organizing events such
as debates, moot courts, sports fests, ADR competitions etc. which helps the students interact
with each other and the also get the much needed break from academics. All in all, it is an
undisputed fact that our vivacious environment doesn’t only promote learning but it has a lot
more to offer to its students.

ACADEMIC BLOCK
There are two Academic Blocks in
NLIU, the first Academic Block has
classes for the First, Fourth and the
Fifth year students and the second
Academic Block has classes for the
Second and the Third year
students. The classrooms are fully
air-conditioned and have podiums,
projectors to facilitate e-learning
facilities.

Trimester System
Effectively, a trimester consists of around 65 working days and you write two exams in those 65
days – midterms and end terms. The thought is terrifying, no doubt. However, it’s really not as
stressful as it appears to be. Also, to be very honest, you get kind of used to the stress.
Class room Hours: The Regular Lectures take place from 9.00 A.M to 4.00 P.M in which there is
a Lunch Time from 1:30 P.M - 3:00 P.M. The University is off on 2nd and 3rd Saturday of the
month and all Sundays. Further, the students get one week trimester end break after the First
Trimester, one month break after the Second Trimester and two months break after the Last
Trimester.

300-seater Auditorium with
audio-visual technology.
Further the college is soon
going to have its very own
world class, state of the art
convention centre which will
be equipped with the seating
capacity of 1000 people.
Probably it will be inaugurated
by the end of this year.

SPORTS IN NLIU
In the midst of the hectic college life that law students lead, exercise can often prove to be a very
good stress buster. Besides having an atmosphere that encourages research and learning, the
University also provides for a strong sporting culture. Among other things, the college has an on-
campus sports facility as well as a Sports Committee which organizes the well-established
intercollegiate sports festival, “Virudhaka”.
The Sports Complex
In the vicinity of the college campus lies
the unassuming sports complex of NLIU
which is like second home to many. Within
the complex are a number of facilities
catered towards the diversity of
sportspersons in the University; there is a
Gym on the top floor, always bustling with
loud music the timings of which are 6
A.M-9 P.M, two Badminton Courts, Table
Tennis tables, Pool tables, other indoor
games, a Basketball Court, a Volleyball

Court as well as a newly constructed Football Field. If you cannot find a fellow hostel-mate in
his or her room, the next best place to look in would be this sports centre that is indisputably the
lifeline of the college.

Sports Committee NLIU

The University has its very own Sports Committee established for the purpose of providing
students with a wholesome environment by encouraging them to take up sports as an extra-
curricular and participate in nationwide tournaments. The Committee, reconstituted on a yearly
basis, also organizes the annual flagship sports fest “Virudhaka” which attracts law students from
all over the country, participating in events ranging from basketball to volleyball and other
indoor games such as FIFA and Counterstrike matches.

FOOD AT NLIU
For all the future foodies of NLIU, Food will be what you are always thinking about but never
something you’ll worry about! Whether it’s the celebratory tradition of giving others “treats” or
the binge eating during finals week, food forms an integral part of the culture at NLIU. Bhopal is
a city known for having a vast number of affordable restaurants, a great diversity of cuisines and
simply great food! From the famous chains of Top ‘n’ Town and Amer Bakery to 5 star
restaurants such as Courtyard Marriott and Jehanuma Palace, this wonderful city of lakes has
heart-warming food for all. The University campus is located only twenty minutes from the main
city; with easily available taxis and autos as well as the University bus facility, students are often
seen hanging out in what are known as “hotspots” such as Bake ‘n’ Shake in New Market, Sagar
Gaire, Zam Zam and so on. Besides offering a number of choices to vegetarians, Bhopal also has
a number of food chains for the chicken lovers such as Hakeem’s and Al Beik (its very own
“Sasta KFC”).

Mess
Coming to the University, NLIU has a separate mess facility for each hostel functional all year
round. The timings are Breakfast (8:00 A.M to 10:00 A.M) Lunch (12:00 P.M to 2:00 P.M)
Snacks (5:00 P.M to 6:00 P.M) and Dinner (8:00 P.M to 10:00 P.M). The mess caters to students
from all over the country and tries to include in the weekly plans nutritious, healthy food as well
as food that is tasty. The caterers try very hard to make the meals appeal to the taste buds of the

students, switching them up every week and following up every second meal with delicious
desserts. The hostel administration also calls for the appointment of a Mess Committee from
among the students to address food related issues and decide the weekly meal plans. We also
have a Special Dinner which is hosted two times in a month.

Canteen
Apart from the mess that provides for three meals a day and an evening snack as well, NLIU has
a canteen where you can get rice, noodles, wafers, drinks and all kinds of egg dishes and a
Nescafe booth where the most popular man on campus, endearingly known as “Manoj bhaiyya”,
gives the students their daily dose of coffee (often in between lectures) as well as ice tea, pasta,
and the favourite of all, Maggi! Any other kind of packaged food you crave can be purchased at
the General Store located near the entrance of the University. Groceries can also be easily
ordered via phone using the facilities of delivery services such as ‘On Door’. Leaving home for
college is a sign of independence like none other, the freedom to have the best food one of its
greatest charms!

ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY TOWARDS RAGGING

The NLIU has adopted the UGC Regulations on curbing the menace of ragging in higher
educational institutions, 2009. The University shall strictly observe the provisions of the Act of
the Central Government and the State Government, if any, or if enacted, considering ragging as a
cognizable offence under the law. Ragging is strictly prohibited inside and outside the University
campus, including its departments, constituent units, all its premises (academic block, residential
area, sports complex, canteen etc.) and in all means of transportation of students, whether public
or private. The institution shall take strict action against those found guilty of ragging and/or of
abetting ragging. The Anti-Ragging Committee constituted for this purpose by the institute is
empowered to take an immediate action against any untoward incident and also to counsel the
fresher. Students seeking admission shall have to furnish an undertaking in this regard. At the
commencement of the academic session, the Director of the Institute shall convene an orientation
session and address a meeting of various functionaries/agencies, such as Hostel Wardens,
representatives of the students, parents/guardians and faculty to acclimatize the fresher to the
academic and social environment of the campus and to discuss the measures to be taken in order
to prevent ragging in the institution and to identify the offenders and punish them suitably.
