MESSAGE

FROM THE CHANCELLOR

The National Law University Odisha was established by Act IV of 2008. This is a message in
respect of our first batch of students enrolled in the year 2009. We wish to inform all
stakeholders that the University although founded only in 2009 has adopted a very competitive
and updated Syllabus for the students of both integrated B.A. LL.B Honours & B.B.A. LL.B.
Honours Courses. We wish to bring to your notice that ours is the only Law University with dual
Honours specialization both in Arts and Managerial streams. A look at the Syllabus in our
Brochure will indicate the depth and the seriousness in framing the Syllabus in each of the
Courses. Our students have interned in NGOs, Magistrate Courts, Law Firms and also with
Senior Advocates of the High Court, Supreme Court and with the Judiciary.
Our students have participated in all the National and International Moot Courts and Intra
University Moot Court competition. A glance at our Brochure will indicate the firms and other legal fraternity where our
students have interned. This being a maiden venture for our students into the arena of the legal field, be it Corporate, Law
Firms or the Judiciary, they have trained to do their best i.e. they have been given a holistic development in the University
both in Curricular and Co-curricular activities. They would be future leaders in the field of law and allied fields. Their future
can be shaped as an asset to the Legal World with your kind cooperation for their endeavours.

WHAT MAKES STUDENTS AT
NLUO SPECIAL
Constituting the foundation of an incipient university which is hardly four years old, the student community at NLUO has
made a distinctive mark in diverse national and international forums. Be it challenging moot-court competitions, debating
contests, seminars or conferences, the students of this University have earned laurels in every field. Entering the institute
through a national-level competitive examination, i.e., the CLAT, the students are put through a demanding regime of five
years of an integrated study of law and other related disciplines. The exposure of the students to an arrangement of
continuous evaluation examines every aspect of their proficiency and facilitates an enhancement in their skills through
various tools and techniques, designed and continuously renewed by a highly qualified and experienced faculty. This
prepares them for the rigorous work culture of litigation as well as law firms, corporate houses, international and multilateral
institutions, government ministries and regulatory institutions. This is the result of an intergrated and inter-disciplinary
approach to legal education, exposing both the BA.LL.B as well as BBA.LL.B students to the law in action in its various
dimensions and forms. Throughout the span of study in the university, there is a constant cross-fertilisation and link between
legal subjects and non-law ones such as Sociology, Political Science, Economics, Financial Accounting, Marketing and
Management to ensure a holistic development of the mind. The University also boasts of an array of specialization courses
in varied aspects of law, such as Corporate Law, Intellectual Property Rights, Constitutional Law and Criminal Law among
various others which train the students in specific spheres of law so as to make them competent to cater to the varied needs
of the market within a time deadline. The students of NLUO bring to their work the culture of prompt and timely service in an
efficient and ethical manner.
All of these aspects have together contributed in producing students who can very well establish a nexus between the
realms of theoretical constructs and their manifestations - a holistic fusion of academic efficiency and the ability to handle
the practical and rigorous challenges in the legal arena, be it courts or law firms or corporate houses.
Further, NLUO makes the students avail of internship opportunities under Judges as well as Senior Advocates of the
Supreme Court and High Courts and various tribunals as also in eminent and prestigious law firms. Hence, an NLUO
student comes legally equipped to collect all relevant facts and analyse them accurately, frame issues and give reasoned
answers to legal problems. An intellectual stamina for day and night legal conferences, negotiations, arbitrations and
mediations and drafting is an inherent part of a student of NLUO after five years of training in an environment of thinking,
doing, reflecting, correcting and delivering.
