Road Work& Other Scope Details.

a) Site Clearance
Site clearance work consists of clearing & grubbing of the site; cutting of trees including
cutting of trunks, branches and removal of stumps, roots, stacking of serviceable material;
dismantling of existing old structures like culverts, bridges, retaining walls, fencing,
boundary walls and other structures, sorting the dismantled material, disposal of
unserviceable material and stacking the serviceable material; scarification of existing
bituminous surface etc.

b) Earth Work
Earth work consists of excavation in soil/ordinary rocks/hard rock’s; construction of
embankment with material obtained from roadway cuttings/ obtained from Borrow Pits;
construction of sub grade with material obtained from Borrow Pits, (CBR>7) Construction of
hard shoulders (CBR>12%) with approved material and required camber.

c) Sub-base & Base Course

Construction of GSB using CRM Grade-II and base course with Wet Mix Macadam (WMM) of
proper grading as specified in Standard Specifications for Road & Bridge Works, by MoRT&H
(2013, fifth revision). The average width & thickness of sub-base & base courses are
mentioned in the Typical Cross Section.

d) Pavement
Flexible pavement is proposed in open country and has the following components:
Bituminous Concrete (BC), Dense Graded Bituminous Macadam (DGBM), and Prime Coat&
Tack Coat.

e) Over Lay
At few locations where existing Rigid Pavement is in good condition, it is proposed to be
overlaid with BM 50 mm, BC 30 mm& then widened using flexible pavement/interlocking
block pavements.

f) Junction Improvement
All the at-grade junctions (both major & minor) are proposed to be improved. 2% additional
quantity of earthwork, sub-base & base course and pavement items are taken for junction
improvement on lump sum basis.
g) Traffic Signs, Markings & Road Appurtenance
These consist of providing and fixing of Informatory Traffic Signs, Warning Signs, Regulatory
Traffic Signs, Direction and Place Identification Signs; Road Markings; providing and fixing of
5th Km Stones, Ordinary Km Stones, Hectometer Stones & Road Boundary Stones etc.

h) Drainage & Protective Works

Construction of unlined surface drains of average cross sectional area 0.40 sqm in soil to
specified lines, Retaining walls/ toe walls are proposed at required location to retain the
embankment slope. Metal beam (W) crash barriers are proposed at high embankment, sharp
curves, bridge approaches etc locations.

i) Cross Drainage Works

Cross drainage works consists of reconstruction/ widening/ new construction/ repairing of
existing culverts/ minor & major bridges. Summary of the cross drainage works is given in
the improvement proposal chapter.

j) Utility Shifting
Provision has been made in the cost estimate for raising and of shifting electric supply lines
and tree cutting.
