Employer and Employee Relationship: Peace Be With You

Achieving a no lockout, or no strike itself may be a bit difficult without first

building a good relationship between employers and employees. Industrial peace is
an indication of how a certain organization effectively handles its downstream
system to upstream system, vice versa, effectively. Having the capacity to maintain a
nice connection between employees and employers helps create a safe and a
peaceful working place. Therefore, there will be no chance or maybe just a bit
chance that lockouts or strikes will emerge.

According to Republic Act No. 875, an act promoting industrial peace, that
peace can be attained by encouraging and protecting employees of their right to
self-organization for the purpose of collective bargaining and for the promotion of
their moral, social, and economic well-being and by making available full and
adequate governmental facilities for conciliation and mediation to aid and
encourage employers and representatives of their employees in reaching and
maintaining agreements concerning terms and conditions of employment and in
making all reasonable efforts to settle their differences by mutual agreement.

The said act emphasizes the relevance of the employers’ care to their
employees, covering their rights. Industrial peace comes in when there is a clear and
a vibrant affiliation between the two. An industrial peace is the absence of industrial
actions. It is really necessary to practice and impose the idea of mutual obligation.
Through this, an organization will be free from worries whether their employees
will do a strike the day after they have violated their rights relative to unions and
other issues. It is important to give respect to what the employees should receive. In
contrast, it is still needed to retain the concept of “management prerogative” within
the organization to protect their own rights relative to the employees’ rights.

It is no doubt that being true to the employees and to the things agreed upon
would lead to a harmonious working environment. At times it may be sensible to
bring in outside help. The National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC) can help
employers and employee representatives to resolve disagreements in several ways.
By doing so, there is a big possibility that genuine peace will truly come between
both parties.
