Welcome to the Companion CD for Elements of Chemical Reaction Engineering, Fourth

Edition
(ISBN: 0-13-047394-4), by H. Scott Fogler and M. Nihat Gurmen. Copyright 2006 by
Pearson
Education, Inc.

This CD-ROM is a companion to the book Elements of Chemical Reaction Engineering,

4th
Edition, by H. Scott Fogler. It contains web browser-driven content intended to
supplement the information in the book. We suggest that you use the latest version
of
Mozilla Firefox or Netscape Communicator to view the contents of this CD.

A Warning to Macintosh Users:

The majority of the files on the CD-ROM are HTML files. Great care was taken in
trying to
ensure that these files would work on both PCs and Macs. However, many of the non-
HTML
files on the CD-ROM are Windows/DOS-based programs, for which there are
(unfortunately) no
Macintosh equivalents. You may still use these files, if you have a PC emulator
program
on your Mac, such as Virtual PC.

Here is a partial list of the Windows/DOS-based programs: Polymath, all of the

Interactive
Computer Modules, and most of the plug-ins included on the CD.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
The following are the minimum and recommended system requirements for using this
CD-ROM:

Windows Systems Requirements:

Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows ME, Windows XP, or a
later

higher) and a JavaScript-enabled HTML browser (the latest working version of
Netscape is
included on the CD-ROM in the software/netscape folder) are required. Plug-ins for

the CD. Unfortunately, many of the non-HTML files on the CD-ROM are Windows/DOS-

such as
Virtual PC, is required in order to be able to view the non-HTML content on this
CD-ROM.

Optional Storage Requirements:

Each of the ICMs require 10 MB of hard disk space to install.

the CD-ROM.

INSTALLATION AND USE

Run your favorite web browser (we recommend Netscape, see below), and open the
"start.htm"
file in the main directory of the CD. We suggest that you read the How to Use this
CD pages,
where you will learn more about using the CD to its fullest. After that, you may
begin your
exploration of the CD by clicking on any chapter from the Table of Contents menu
bar.

To install the additional software included on the CD-ROM, browse to the

appropriate
