Dance Performance

Start Date: September, 2012

Location: Confederation Centre of the Arts & Prince of Wales Campus
Credential Issued: Diploma, Dance Performance
Tuition: $5,500 per year
Students will learn the technical and artistic skills required for a career as a professional dancer; develop an under-
standing of the business aspects of the profession and the etiquette of the performing arts. In addition to developing
the personal skills required for a successful career, students will also acquire a deeper knowledge in three key areas:
Dance Performance:
• Demonstrate the level of skill required to garner professional contracts.
• Apply appropriate technique to prevent injury.
• Demonstrate the ability to pick up choreography quickly and retain past repertoire.
• Use vocabulary and terminology relevant to each style of dance.
• Demonstrate the ability to think creatively, intuitively, and logically.
• Attain an acceptable standard in voice and acting skills to increase employability.

Dance Knowledge:
• Understand the major influences in the history of the art form.
• Attain a fundamental understanding of the elements of choreographic creation.
• Demonstrate extensive knowledge of functional anatomy.
• Demonstrate a fundamental level of knowledge of stagecraft (lighting, costume, etc.).

Dance Business:
• Demonstrate a working knowledge of the business elements of a career in the performing arts
(contract negotiation, agents, taxation, unions, resumés).
• Demonstrate the skills to self-produce.
• Demonstrate the ability to manage financial
affairs, records and contracts.

Graduate Opportunities:
Graduates may find employment with dance
companies across the country, in the cruise ship
and entertainment industries, and as
self-producers.

Admission Requirements:
• Grade 12 or equivalent with credits at or
above the general level.
• Performance audition.
• Resumé including related training, work and
volunteer experience with applicable dates,
membership in groups, associations or
athletics, awards and distinctions, and any
other information about yourself relevant
to the program.
