(f) Write short notes on : i) camber ii) castor iii) King pin inclination
Q. 2. Attempt any four parts : 5 x 4 = 20
(a) Describe wet sump lubrication with neat sketch. (b) Sketch and explain the construction and working of diesel fuel injector. (c) Draw layout of valve operating mechanism for an overhead valve engine. (d) A two speed epicyclic gear box has two gear trains, each of which consists of sun gear having 18 teeth and annulus having 78 teeth. Determine the two gear ratios? (e) What is the need of a clutch in the transmission system? Write down the requirements of good clutch (f) Write various types of maintenances. Briefly explain breakdown maintenance.
Q. 3. Attempt any two parts : 10X 2 = 20
(a) Explain the Ackermann’s principle of steering. Find the condition of free rolling and equation of correct steering. (b) A vehicle having drum brakes has wheel cylinder piston of 52mm diameter at the front and 26mm diameter at the back. The master cylinder piston is of 42mm diameter. The leverage of brake pedal linkage is 4. Determine braking force on each axle, if the driver applies a force of 120 N at the pedal. Also calculate the distance through which the pedal should be pressed so that there is 1mm movement of the wheel cylinder pistons. (c) What is the necessity of gearbox? Explain the working of constant mesh gearbox. What are its advantages and limitation?
Q. 4. Attempt any two parts : 10X 2 = 20
a) What are the different types of radiators? Describe in detail. What are the main properties of antifreeze solutions used in cooling? Name some of the anti-freeze solutions in practice. b) What are the requirements of suspension system? What are the different types of suspension system? Describe coil spring rear suspension system. c) A motor car weighs 13349.44 N. the rolling resistance may be assumed at 44.498N per 4449.81 N of vehicle weight. The air resistance is given by 0.0017AV 2 where A is the frontal area and V is the car speed. The frontal area of the vehicle is 2.312m 2 and car speed is 47.76 Km/Hr. Determine the power required to propel the vehicle on level road. If the tractive effort available at the wheels is 1859.97 N, determine the maximum gradient which the vehicle can climb.
