Grade 4 Science: Seed Parts & Germination

The document outlines a detailed lesson plan for a 4th grade science class on seed germination. It includes objectives, materials, procedures, and an evaluation. The procedures describe activities where students will play a game to identify seed parts blindfolded and then learn about the embryo, radicle, epicotyl, cotyledons, and seed coat using a PowerPoint presentation. Students will identify seed parts and answer review questions to assess learning.

Detailed Lesson Plan In Science Garde IV

I. Objective: At the end of the period, the students will be able to:
Cognitive: Identify the parts of the seed and define Germination;
Affective: To help preserve the environment; and
Psychomotor: Write the parts of the seed.

II. Subject Matter

A. Topic: Parts of the seed in it's Germination.
B. Reference: Science for Daily Use 4 Textbook, pp. 83-84
C. Materials: PowerPoint Presentation, containers, blindfold, and puzzle pieces.
D. Values Infused: Cooperation and Camaraderie.

III. Procedures

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY

A. Preparation
1. Prayer
2. Greetings
-Good morning class. -good morning Ma'am.

3. Attendance

-Ok class. You may now take your sit.

4. Checking of attendance.
- Who is absent today?
- Very good. -none teacher.
B. Motivation
"UNSEEding"
Okay class, we will have a game this morning.
And the game was entitled "UNSEEding", the
class will be divided into 3 groups. I've
provided three containers here, each
container have 10 puzzle pieces. Each group - Yes maam!
will have one representative who will be fixing
the puzzle pieces in order to form a big
picture. But take note the representative will
be blindfolded, and the rest of the members
will serve as his/ her eyes. They will coach
him/ her by saying what piece will fit and not. - Yes maam!
The game will only last for 5 minutes, and the
group who will be having the most number of
puzzle pieces that have been stick together - Seeds maam!
will be announce as the winner. Are you
ready? - Yes Ma'am!
C. Presentation
What image did the puzzle form?
Right! Because our topic for today is about
the parts of the seed in it's germination. Are
you ready to listen?
D. Discussion
(Using PowerPoint Presentation)
Seeds have been an important development
in the reproduction and spread of flowering
plants. Seeds, though too small, they have
their own parts, like an ordinary living thing.
Today, we are going to learn the different
parts of a SEED.
A seed only develops its parts only when
it undergoes a process called SEED - GERMINATION is the process by
GERMINATION. which plants, emerge from seed
and begin growth.
(The teacher will post the definition of
GERMINATION, by powerpoint presentation)
(She will let the pupils read it loud)

Okay, thank you.

I have here a photo of a seed during
germination.

These are the parts of a SEED during

germination.

PARTS OF A SEED
EMBRYO – a very young plant from which a
new plant grow under proper conditions

RADICLE – in a dicot is the embryonic root.

“Can you point out where is the radicle in the
slide?”
(A pupil will go in front and point out Radicle
in the PowerPoint presentation)
“Within the seed, there is usually a store of
nutrients for the seeding that will grow from
the EMBRYO. The seed has its own food
supply – called the EPICOTYL and
COTYLEDONS.” - none, ma’am!

SEED COAT – develops from tissue, originally - yes, ma’am!

surrounding the OVULE. The seed coat helps
protect theembryo. - AN EMBRYO
“So, where’s the seed coat in
thebillustration?”
(A pupil will respond)
"Okay, thank you. So you see, the SEED COAT - RADICLE!
is the outer part of a seed.”
Any other question? - EPICOTYL AND COTYLEDON

Did you understand the lesson?

Again, what is a very young plant from

which a new plant grow under proper
conditions?

What about the embryonic root in

a dicot seed?

What do you call the seeds own

food supply?
“Very good!”
E. Generalization
1. Closure Actvity
Instruction: Identify the parts of the seed from the
figure.
2. Values
"Being a good listener is a great trait to have."
"Being coopertaive, productive and active in class
will make you a responsible student."

IV. Evaluation

DIRECTION: On your answer sheet, encircle the letter of the correct answer.

1. It protects the embryo.

a) roots
b) leaf
c) seed coat

2. It grows into a young plant.

a) seed coat
b) endosperm
c) embryo

3. It provides food to the young plant.

a) seed coat
b) embryo
c) endosperm

4. Which of these is not a part of a seed?

a) flower
b) embryo
c) seed coat

5. The epicotyl is a part of embryo that grows into ______.

a) leaves
b) roots
c) stem

V. Assignment

Answer the following questions in your notebook.

1. List down the factors that affects seed germination and growth.
2. How does a flowering plant start?
3. What is a primary root?
4. What are the seeds that germinate even without soil?
5. How does a seed grow into a plant?
