Background check
The symptoms have been going through a cyclic phase for approx. a
month. The patient admits the first time he experienced symptoms
were a week after his outdoor picnic where he might have caught the
disease. The patient believes he has eaten something at the picnic
which has caused the infection but he is the only known member
from the picnic to have actually gotten sick. There is no family
history regarding the symptoms and this is the first therapy the
patient has outreached for.

Blood Test
The blood test shows the presence of a malaria causing the parasite
Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium malariae which normally
take 7 to 14 days to show symptoms .There is also a hint of
Plasmodium vivax and ovale presence in the blood which normally
take 8 to 14 days in malaria patients. There is presense of all malaria
causing agents in the patient’s blood. P.M, P.F, P.V, and P.O are
directly related to malaria.

Diagnosis
After looking at the blood smear of the patient under a microscope
and finding plasmodia (malaria parasites) presence and the
symptoms which directly relate to the infection, it has been
concluded that the patient has caught Malaria from an infected

female mosquito. The mosquito bite transmits young forms of the
malaria parasite into the person's blood. The parasites travel
through the person's bloodstream to the liver, where they grow to
their next stage of development and this causes cyclic symptoms in a
patient.

Treatment
The patient has been prescribed Mefloquine for duration of 1.5
months and the patient is to report back to the doctor after that time
period to compare the results. Directions of use are as follow:

 The adult dosage is 250 mg (one tablet) once a week.

 Take the first dose 1 week before arrival in the malaria-risk area.
 Take your dose once a week, on the same day of the week, while
in the risk area.

 Take your dose once a week for 4 weeks after leaving the risk
area.
 Take the drug on a full stomach with a full glass of liquid

Prognosis
The medication prescribed should treat the patient by exterminating
the bacteria in his blood stream although he needs to come back for
further checkup so the parasite doesn’t develop again.
