ABOUT THE NGO:
Ahan foundation is an inclusive resource center for the empowerment of persons with
disability.
Started in 2014/2015 as a self-help group of parents of persons with disability, Ahan has been
consistently working towards addressing the common issues faced by specially-abled people and
their families. Today, the team has grown huge and many people from all across the nation have
volunteered to join the cause.
Ahan foundation believes that every individual can be enabled to perform developmental
activities and become more independent and integrated into the mainstream society through
effective advocacy, training, education and societal support systems. It is therefore crucial that
community and society both work in coherence to provide a sustainable environment for the
quality of life the individuals deserve.
The programs designed are person-centric and accommodate PWDs to be engaged in an
inclusive setting. They are committed to gender equality, and as such the programs are designed
with a gender-inclusive approach, in accordance with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
Act passed by the Government of India in 2016.
Our operations are adaptive of special education, vocational assessment and counselling, life
skills, capacity building, manufacturing and assembly line operations.
Services:
Education Programme:
Their approach is holistic, and they provide complete learning, one that aims at maximizing the
potential of an individual over a life span. All the Educational Programs offered at Ahan stem
from this broad definition of education. The focus of the teaching is multi-dimensional and
encompasses all important skill areas like communication, social understanding, play and leisure,
self-care routines amongst others. Students come with a range of developmental conditions
including autism, learning disability, intellectual impairment and so on as well as other
disabilities
Since all the activities are experiential, they motivate the child to participate in the learning
process. Free play, games and leisure primarily target the socio-communication skills. From the
early years, children learn to use the computer for educational, prevocational and recreational
purposes. Making choices, something that bolsters both self-esteem and independence, forms an
integral part of the daily routine. The teaching is done through structured educational aids, video
modelling, power point presentations, interactive CDs and apps etc. There is also an active focus
on the children participating regularly in competitive events at other schools, excursion trips,
picnics and camps.
Expectations in all activities, for each child, are individualized according to the child’s skills and
needs.

Vocational skill training programme:

in gainful economic activities. It aims specifically, through vocational training and skill
development programs, to give employment to such adults in an inclusive workspace.
