TYPE OF TASK: Lecture


ROLES: University student and university professor
PURPOSE: Describing and giving opinions about an academic topic
PROMPT: You are an expert on a certain field of knowledge (your current program at ITM) and you are invited to
a give a lecture for a Conference in Bogotá. The task requires the following aspects:
1. The task will be individual
2. Describe and give your opinion about a current topic, event or project you are developing in your field of
knowledge or base don an article that you rea don a academic magazine.
3. Mention the topic, event or project, a brief summary, and two reasons why you consider it really important.
4. Use the grammar structures and vocabulary required to express ideas
5. Time assigned: 4 minutes each person.

Communication and content: understand and complete the task
assigned by giving opinions about an academic topic; communicate
and send messages so the audience is left with no questions.
Fluency: produce a cohesive discourse; use short, mainly pre-
packaged utterances and link them with basic linear connectors; and
use an appropriate organization within the sentences that are
according to the level.
Vocabulary: use vocabulary about opinions about an academic topic;
use a variety of word choice to make the dialogue interesting.
Structure: produce the simple present structure when talking about
opinions about an academic topic, pose and answer information
questions; use other sentence structures.
Pronunciation: pronounce and produce intonation patterns of basic
sounds that allow the audience to understand the message.
Pronounce without interfering with the meaning or communication
purpose of the task.
