TYPE OF TASK: Role play


ROLES: Two experts in the field of technology
PURPOSE: Presenting predictions about the future of two inventions.
PROMPT: You and your colleague are experts in the field of technology and you are invited to a TV show about
inventions for the National Geographic. You need to talk about the future of two inventions and their effects in
future life. The task requires the following aspects:
1. The task will be in pairs and you will be randomly assigned a classmate the same day the oral task is
programmed.
2. Describe the inventions or modern devices.
3. Present the predictions you have on how these devices are going to impact everyday activities, human health,
or social life.
4. Time assigned: 4 minutes each pair.

Communication and content: understand and complete the task
assigned by informing people about predictions of inventions and
modern devices; communicate and send messages so the audience is
left with no questions.
Fluency: produce a cohesive discourse; use short, mainly pre-
packaged utterances and link them with basic linear connectors; and
use an appropriate organization within the sentences that are
according to the level.
Vocabulary: use vocabulary about predictions for inventions and
modern devices; use a variety of word choice to make the monologue
interesting.
Structure: produce the modal verbs and other structures when
talking about predictions; use other sentence structures.
Pronunciation: pronounce and produce intonation patterns of basic
sounds that allow the audience to understand the message, without
interfering with the meaning or communication purpose of the task.
