This module was designed and written with you in mind. It is here to help you
understand how to disseminate information using the codes, convention, and
language of media. The scope of this module permits it to be used in many different

learning situations. The lessons are arranged to follow the standard sequence of the
course.

Media codes and conventions are important parts of all the media around us.
Codes are signs that creates meaning. There are three types of media codes

2. technical codes
3. written codes

Symbolic codes are social in nature. Meaning these codes live outside the
media product themselves, but can be understood in the same ways in the real life of
the viewers. For example, if you saw someone accept a flower in a movie, you would
