understanding of what is
happening for that person
FBA involves collective
evidence, comparing and
analyzing information,
hypothesizing reason for
behaviour, and developing a
plan
FBA should be carried out
over a period of time, often
using an ABC chart to collect
data.

A school team works on the
FBA. ​The team is led by a
person trained in
understanding behavior,
like a school psychologist
or a behavior specialist.
The FBA team may also
include:
Teachers (both general and
special education)
School administrators
Professionals who work with
the student (counselors and
speech therapists, for
example)
The student and their family
There is no set time frame for
an FBA or ABC chart to be
conducted, however, it should
happen relatively soon after
an unwanted behaviour is
noticed. It can take anywhere
from 2-8 weeks to conduct
(could be shorter, could be
 longer)
