INTRAPRENEURIAL OPPORTUNITIES ON FIBRIN SEALANT PATCH

Introduction
Intrapreneurial opportunities are opportunities that need to be exploited by utilizing the

organization's skills to come up with solutions for organizational problems while bringing about

business development in the long run. Intrapreneurship is a good practice since it pushes

employees to stay motivated and engaged at work while working to make the established

Company better and more competitively advantaged (Hostager and Lorentz, 1998). From our

market domain overview, we already established that the fibrin sealant patch has some very

distinct features that have made it one of the most effective products in the operating rooms since

it stops bleeding and saves lives.

However, from its SWOT analysis, it's clear that few improvements can be made on the

fibrin sealant patch to ensure it remains the most preferred product in the medical field at large.

This means we need to find ways to exploit our opportunities and reduce the impact of threats

facing our business by putting the right procedures and measures into place. This paper gives a

detailed overview of intrapreneurial opportunities identified and assessed within our Company

and its impact concerning the effort and resources needed while showing how our organization is

going to benefit.

Intrapreneurial opportunities

Price reduction to increase its affordability and increase the number of sales. Now that we've

identified that the fibrin patch is an essential commodity in the medical field and is the most

preferred by doctors and surgeons, it would only be fair if we made the patches available at
affordable prices to meet demand. One way of achieving this is by subsidizing production costs

and embracing the use of the most recent technologies.

Being the most reliable tool in surgical processes, the fibrin patch manufacturers can also

devise ways to ensure it capitalizes on this opportunity. For example, Currently, there are no

such products that are designed specifically for people who are allergic to the other patches. The

fibrin patch can be used with other materials that are safe for people with such allergies. The

other substitute products from our main competitors have not considered this factor. Putting it

into practice will ensure that our fibrin batches become even more effective since they will fill an

existing gap in the market. Any intrapreneurial opportunity aims to ensure business development,

and exploiting this idea will go a long way in offering solutions for such complex situations in

the medical field.

One of the weaknesses identified while carrying out our SWOT analysis was that the

amount of fibrin units that can be used on an individual is limited, making it unreliable.

Depending on the amount of blood flow, some patients may require more units as compared to

others. The Company should, therefore, work into producing a large number of patches that can

be used at a go without limitation to prevent bleeding (Gasparri, 2017). A single shortcoming can

cost a company its reputation; hence coming up with a way to deal with this weakness will

increase the organization’s attractiveness to its external stakeholders.

Also, to improve its competitive advantage, the Company reliable for manufacturing fibrin

sealant patches and needs to invest more in the patches' most outstanding components. The

product is made of polypropylene mesh that is responsible for reducing excessive bleeding and a

biodegradable component that makes it absorbable into the human body (Montorsi, 2012).
Knowing that these are the two main aspects of the fibrin patch that make it outstanding, the

manufacturers should allocate more money into acquiring them to ensure that the quality of the

product remains top-notch, and that there will be no point where its demand exceeds supply.

With consistency, the fibrin patch will always be considered the most efficient product in the

medical field, which means more profits.

Having identified that fibrin sealant patch can transmit infections to a patient when used to

prevent bleeding, it's crucial for the Company that manufactures these patches to come up with a

way to ensure their products do more good than harm. By collaborating with other professionals

in the medical field, the Company's chief innovation officer can come up with a different

procedure for manufacturing the patches to ensure their products do not give rise to new diseases

while the patient is trying to recover from surgery. For example, a component that acts as an

antibiotic could be incorporated into the manufacture of these patches, which will enable it to

fight bacterial infections that could worsen the wound or the internally affected area.

Intrapreneurial assessment

In my opinion, the most effective intrapreneurial opportunity to implement is reducing prices

and improving the quality of the fibrin patches. There are no better ways to ensure customer

satisfaction and retention that these two strategies (Vargas-Halabí, 2017). Reducing the prices

does not require much effort from the manufacturing Company, instead, it only dictates that they

come up with a strategy to ensure that they produce large amounts that will see them making

sustainable profits despite selling at lower prices as compared to their competitor companies.

Human beings are naturally economical and always prefer products and services that give them
value for money. However, this does not mean that the Company now has to compromise on

quality to provide quantity. On the contrary, it should invest more in acquiring polypropylene

mesh and the components that give it its adhesive and biodegradable characteristic since they are

what makes these patches outstanding.

The resources needed to exploit all the above-stated opportunities are mainly finances and

human resources in the form of an excellent strategic team. The Company's board of

management needs to set aside funds that will be used to improve their products and come up

with a team of intrapreneurial employees who will work on this particular project. Given that the

fibril sealant patch is already considered a reliable product in the market, it will not be difficult to

penetrate the market once all the changes have been implemented. Therefore, this makes the

work of strategic marketing easier.

On implementation, one of the significant impacts this will have on the organization is an

improved competitive advantage due to the release of a more effective product on the market.

Given that it's a product that is used in the field of healthcare, people prefer efficiency. Once the

improvements have been made, the final product will serve its purpose well, leading to an

improved customer base and higher profits in the long run. Also, making them readily at any

facility improves how external stakeholders view the Company, which could attract more

investors hence broadening the scope of the manufacturing Company. With more capital, it could

decide to also produce more healthcare products after carrying out proper market research and

finding out what the requirements of the food and drug authority are.
