Three types of solids:

Types Characteristics
Crystalline Their molecules or atoms are arranged in a repeating pattern of three-dimensional
lattice units. They have definite melting points and extreme temperature would be
needed to break their intermolecular force. They are anisotropic and symmetrical.
Amorphous They are distorted and irregularly arranged. They do not have a melting point.
Amorphous solids are physically less stable than crystalline because of the weak
interaction between its molecules. They are isotropic and unsymmetrical.
Polymeric Polymers are large molecules formed by the covalent assembly of smaller molecules
(monomers) into a chain or network of repeating structural units. They stabilize the
amorphous drug in the solid state and help prevent crystallization upon dissolution.
