History of Covid-19

In Wuhan China, new disease spread from the Novel family, named as Coronoa virus. In
December of 2019 it was given name COVID-19. WHO (World Health Organization) explain its
transmission in human from human is possible through respiratory system of droplets. By the
end of 2019, outbreak was in nearby cities too and later it has been termed as epidemic.

On January 23, Wuhan was quarantined, while Hubei province followed him for a few days. The
Chinese government then locked up the entire country, in order to reduce the spread of this
infection. Authorities, in China, have closed public transportation, all institutions for education,
parks and shopping malls and social interaction points to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Start of 202 marked the history with one of the rare pandemic situations that has affected
almost every country of the world in few months’ time. Total number of effected human can be
broken down in over 135,000 children and mover than 2.1 million people across the world.

Environmental Effects of Covid-19

When countries closed, industrial activities stopped all over the world. Lock down stuck
transport like many other businesses of the world. Road and air transport is excluded because
people were not allowed or were very reluctant to go anywhere using any medium. Traveling
through air fell 96% because of COVID-19, in 75 years it was recorded at its lowest, the report
said in CNN. Global demand for oil has dropped dramatically and prices have dropped sharply
because no industrial and transportation sectors were operating worldwide. Where Covid-19
was having worst economic effect all over the world it was a blessing in disguise for its
environment.

Nitrogen dioxide, NO2, is very highly graded reactant that pollutes environment greatly. It is
produced generally by burning the fossil fuel. NO2 is also considered greatly dangerous for
human, because research has proved that death rate can be increased in humans either they
are exposed to NO2 shortly or for longer periods of time. NO2 can cause number of health
issues in humans.

Air pollution was increasing at a rapid pace. But the closure because of COVID-19 did reduce
transportation activities all over the world, resulting in lower consumption of oil and energy.
This has a great impact on environment of the world. National Aeronautics and Space
Administration (NASA) and European Space Agency (ESA) have showed new evidences. These
showed that quality has improved of our environment and NO2 emissions have been dropped
down by 30%. Images released by ESA & NASA before and after lock down.
The figure below shows concentration of NO2 in Wuhan in 2019 and 2020. Emissions of NO2 are
dropped. TROPOMI instruments measured emission/discharge of NO2 using the Sentinel-5P satellite.
Following figure shows the comparison of Wuhan city between January 2019 and 2020 (Covid-19 effect).

Socio Economic Effects

We are at the center of a historic event that will change many our life in this world. We have started to
witness impacts of this lock down, due to Covid-19, on economy of the world, our societies and
geopolitics. All of these impacts, globally, are interlinked. They not just are changing the shape of our
current world but also of our future. Risks are highlighted in report recently published by the World
Economic Forum. That shows how future of the world is at stake due to Covid-19.

Early lock down studies have found that up to 37% of people are showing psychological distress, up to
45% of the adults felt adverse effects on their mental health and up to 70% felt that this period was the
most stressful of their careers.
Covid-19 has shown severe effects on business of all kinds and shapes. Studies show that employees will
have to manage their psychological effects of this lockdown, otherwise when they return to work they
will exert it on their workforce. There will be low morale of the employees or they might be feeling
hyper stress. If nothing they will be in general fear of the disease or anything else. We will see that
inequalities will stay here for longer period of time.

The social and economic disturbance caused by congestion has negative consequences for the mental
health and well-being of young people. As a teenager says, "The life that we found, now, is boring life,
we hope you will find."

Even more worrying are the long-term effects on their outlook. In developed economies, youth
employment recently returned to the levels of the financial crisis before 2008. In developing economies
are facing even worse as if there is steady rise in the youth unemployment. That is a great social unrest.

Companies need to play their part in building societies. They need to bring their skills and resources to
help them invest for their betterment. Clearly, it is writing on the wall that both private and public
sectors have to play their part (financial inclusion) for improvement.

Personal Effects
I would try my best to control my emotions and not to go into an emotional shock or emotional
numbness. I should control my anger and grief. I should not allow situation to overwhelm me or
have heightened anxiety. At the same time I should not have loss of emotional control or panic.

It has made me very vigilant. I don’t make abrupt decision about things either in denial or in
acceptance of anything. I have been more cautious and little bit rigid in my behavior.
