Technology and Privacy: Over the Internet Privacy

Everybody values and appreciates the intricacies of protecting their privacy, regardless of

the sphere of they are in. It is important for us to hold control on the information that is within

reach. With the introduction of technology, this possibility was anticipated. However, it has

become the very thing used to breach the walls that seal our privacy. Advancements in

information technology have recently become a significant threat to privacy, thus limiting a

person’s control over their personal data. Consequently, the current century is attributed to major

breakthroughs in big data and information technology, given the growth in hi-tech companies

and platform economy that facilitates the processing and storage of large amounts of data. As

result, maintaining secrecy over the internet is quickly becoming a challenge. Hence, through

these aspects, with consideration to the threats posed on unsecure internet, accessing the efficacy

of the threat can be achieved.

From this perspective, the meaning of a person privacy and the value accorded to it

remains a subject coupled with considerable controversy. The mix in the rise of technological

capabilities and the decline in precision and agreements on the context of privacy has prompted

concerns about the law, policies, and ethical aspects. However, while information technology

advancements are on a rapid growth, solutions aimed at combating issues on privacy over the

internet are also significantly matching up to the challenge. Today, hi-tech companies are
engrossed in the development of encryption technology that secures over the internet privacy.

Therefore, this improvement is a considerable step towards protecting encroachment of human

dignity and moral autonomy. Nevertheless, the direction that the challenges relegated to over the

internet privacy takes is entirely left to the user.
