A. INTRODUCTION

In the present context, being creative becomes more of a challenge. With the booming of the
technological era, everything turns to be instant. Thus, it creates a mundane feeling of losing our will
to be more innovative in our own ways.

Initial Task (10%): Color a real masterpiece with this Vincent van Gogh’s “Starry Night.”

B. COMPETENCY 1: Art Appreciation: Creativity, Imagination, and Expression

3. Discuss the nature of art’s preliminary expression; and
4. Categorize works of art by citing personal experiences.

 DEFINITION OF TERMS

1. Creativity – the ability to make new things or think of new ideas.

2. Imagination – the ability to form a picture in your mind of something that you have not seen or
experienced.
3. Expression – the act of making your thoughts, feelings, etc., known by speech, writing, or some
other method.
 CONTEXT
 Art Appreciation as a Way of Life:

 Art as a creative work that depicts the world in a completely different light and perspective, and the source
is due to human freedom (Jean Paul Sartre as cited in Greene, 1995)
 Hence, refining one’s ability to appreciate art allows him to deeply understand the purpose of an artwork
and recognize the beauty it possesses (Collins & Riley, 1931).
SAQ #1 (10%): In what ways can imagination produce art? In what ways can art inspire imagination? Briefly
express your insights in no more than 100 words.

Rationality of ideas – 5%
Organization of ideas – 3%
Adherence to instructions –2%
TOTAL – 10%
The Role of Creativity in Art Making:
 In art, creativity is what sets apart one artwork from another.
 An artist embraces originality, puts his own flavor into his work, and calls it his own creative piece.
 Art as a Product of Imagination, Imagination as a Product of Art:
 Imagination is not constrained by the walls of the norm, but goes beyond that.
 An artwork does not need to be a real thing, but can be something that is imaginary (Collingwood,
1938).
 Artists use their imagination that gives birth to reality through creation.
 In the same way that imagination produces art, art also inspires imagination.
SAQ #2 (5%): List 5 artworks and explain the meanings they convey. Don’t forget to include the artist who made
it. You can have a research for this task; however, don’t forget to cite your reference/s.

 Art as Expression:
 Robin George Collingwood, an English philosopher who is best known for his work in aesthetics,
explicated in his publication The Principles of Art (1938) that what an artist does to an emotion is not to
induce it, but express it.
 Some forms of art expression include visual arts, lm, performance art, poetry performance, architecture,
dance, literary arts, theater arts, and applied arts.
