EEE 207 SUMMER 2020

Term Project 2 Date Due: 15.09.20

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Design a bandpass (BP) filter circuit with gain roll off rate of 20 dB/decade and a midband gain AM = 200 V/V.
The lower cutoff frequency, fL, of the filter should be equal to the summation of all the digits in your ID number
in kHz. The upper cutoff frequency, fH, should be 1000fL.

(If your ID is 18121096, then fL = 1+8+1+2+1+0+9+6 = 28 kHz and fH = 1000fL = 28 MHz).

Draw the complete circuit diagram and write the expression for its overall transfer function.

Draw the Bode plot (gain vs. frequency) of the designed filter on a semilog graph paper. Indicate the cutoff
frequencies, bandwidth and the midband gain AM on the plot.

Calculate the exact (from transfer function) and the approximate values (from Bode plot) of the gain in dB at
frequencies fL/10, fL/2, fL, 2fL, 10fL, fH/10, fH/2, fH, 2fH, 10fH, and . Calculate the difference between the
exact and approximate values at different frequencies. Show the calculated exact values, approximate values,
and the difference at different frequencies in a table. Comment on the results.

Using the above calculated values, draw the exact gain vs. frequency plot on the same graph paper. Comment
on the plots.

Must be submitted by the due date. 20% deduction for each day late. No Exception. Page 1
[Hint for the Frequency Response plot: At low-frequency end, the response is like that of a high pass type and
the transfer function can be written as

At high-frequency end, the response is like that of a low pass type and the transfer function can be written as

So the gain at low- and high-frequency ends can be calculated using

for low-frequency end, and

, for high-frequency end.

Calculate at and at multiples of , such as, at =2 , 10 , /2, and /10

( = or ). Mark the points on the graph and connect the dots. ]
