Modern elevator systems use high-speed variable-volt-
age variable-frequency (VVVF) controllers and precision
inverter drive systems. The VVVF inverter controls the AC
elevator motor by changing the voltage and frequency
continuously to give a smooth, bump-less ride and to
sharply reduce electricity consumption.
Building operators and passengers want elevators that
operate smoothly, reliably and safely. An elevator control
system and motor and are expected to operate reliably
for millions of repeated operating cycles. Motors operate
with high peak torque and a high inertia resonant load.
Avago Technologies offers gate drive optocouplers and
intelligent power module (IPM) interface optocouplers to
isolate the controller from the high voltages of the PWM
rectifier and PWM inverter. Isolation amplifiers or high lin-
earity analog optocouplers give feedback on monitored
voltages and currents to the system controllers.
