Once upon a time, there was a boy named Simon.

Before he was born his parents were thrilled to

find out about the pregnancy. His mother had a condition called PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome)
which made it difficult for her to conceive. So for his parents, Simon was a miracle baby.

When he was very young, his mom would teach him not to put his fingers inside his mouth
because he was touching all sorts of different things, making his hands dirty. His mom would give him a
little spank on the wrist whenever he tried to do so. His dad, on the other hand, was more lenient when it
comes to disciplining him, except for one occasion when he accidentally dropped his dad’s keys on the
toilet bowl. His dad got furious and sent him to bed without eating his dinner.

When he was in elementary school, he was part of the basketball team. Every time they won a
game, his parents would treat him and his friends to his favorite ice cream parlor. His parents would also
take him to the movies whenever he finished cleaning up his room.

During his high school years, Simon’s parents were killed in a car accident which meant that he
had to stay with his uncle, who lives in the southern part of the country. He has not been there before and
he doesn’t have any friends.

Starting school in a new environment was very challenging for him. During his first day, nobody
seemed to want to talk to him so he spent his lunch time alone in a bench just outside the school cafeteria.
He was surprised when a boy from his class came to him and said, “You’re the new kid, right? Do you
want to come and join me and my friends?” Simon thought this was very kind of him so he agreed. He
wanted to make friends so badly that he offered to buy all of them lunches.

Before his parents passed, Simon’s mother would have wanted him to become a doctor. Even if
he wanted to become something else, he followed his mother’s wishes as a sign of honoring his parents’
deaths. He felt that they were going to be proud of him even in the afterlife. He also knew that Med
School was not going to be easy so he followed all of the rules and studied as hard as he could.

He started practicing as an ER doctor for a government hospital which meant that most of his
patients are poor and didn’t have that much money. He began having a different perspective in life and
changed most of his ways according to what is ethical and right. He saw how health care was very
minimal when it comes to the downtrodden.

Because of that experience and a change in his philosophy in life, he decided to make the most
out of his medical career.

He joined the Doctors Without Borders, a non-profitable international medical humanitarian

organization. They give emergency aid to people affected by wars, epidemics, famine, natural disasters
and man-made disasters, or areas where there is no healthcare available. It provides this help to all people,
regardless of their race, religion or political beliefs.

There was a point in his career when he was stationed in a remote village in Uganda, during the
time when Joseph Kony ruled as a terrorist. Kony has been accused by government entities of ordering
the abduction of children to become child soldiers and sex slaves. Because of this, Simon made it his
life’s mission to save as many children as possible from Kony even if it meant that he is putting his life at
risk. Among the locals, Simon has become the village hero, as he has saved more than 100 children and
managed to bring them back to their families.

In one unfortunate day, as Simon was doing his routine checks on some of his patients, he was
shot to death by one of Kony’s soldiers who has been following him for some time, disguised as a
missionary. His untimely death has become a catalyst for the village people to stand and fight against
Kony.
