Attitude defines our Altitude

It is rightly said, “It is your attitude, more than your aptitude that will determine your
altitude.”

What is attitude?

It refers to the mental state or position we take regarding our life and affairs. This means,
“It’s not what you think but how you think it”. Our attitude forms every event in our life,
whether we realize it or not. Out of our attitude comes your enjoyment of life and gratitude
for all our blessings. Out of our attitude also comes our disappointment and anger at how
things have turned out. Out of attitude also comes the feeling that no accomplishment will
ever be good enough or that you are not good enough.

In other words, it is just our attitude and thinking that whether we see Glass either half-full or
half-empty.

Positive Attitude vs. Negative Attitude

It is very important for us to have positive attitude if we wish to excel in life as positive
attitude allows us to assess the situation and deal with it more calmly and effectively. On the
other hand, if we have negative approach in life, we might find every situation double scary
and difficult than it actually is.

Here are some examples of how different mind-set people see different situations in life:

 One with positive attitude sees answer in every problem while the one with negative
attitude sees problem in every answer.
 Positive attitude person says, “It is difficult but possible”, but negative attitude person
says, “It is possible but difficult”.

One with the right attitude, no matter even if he has low IQ would reach higher ranks. One
whose mind is progressive, heart is in right place would see the world quite optimistically and
even if, due to some reasons, he fails once or twice, he would never give up, work even
harder and succeed ultimately.
It is evident that a positive attitude helps us to make a difference in the world around
ourselves because when we are able to see things in a positive light and perceive them in a
very positive way, it definitely helps us to influence and shape other people’s attitude as well.

On the other hand, one who has negative attitude, even if he is highly intelligent and
knowledgeable but does not have the necessary motivation and determination to excel, might
not succeed in life.

We are the masters of our own personalities. It is on us what we wish to do, think and how to
use our mind. If we have progressive attitude, we would always shut our minds to pessimistic
thoughts and always urge to move forward. If we have the tendency to choose easy path, we
might fall prey to destructive thoughts and waste our time in thinking too much and doing
less, which would eventually lead us to nowhere.

What is the right approach to attain success?

1) Setting our goals: This is the first and foremost step. Once this is done, we should have
strong determination to walk on the chosen path despite the setbacks we might face.

2) Taking inspiration from great personalities: Famous personalities such as Mahatma

Gandhi, Thomas Edison, Albert Einstein, and Mother Teresa were successful in their fields
because of their positive attitude – when their journeys became challenging, they did not give
up; instead, they kept on trying till they reached their goals.

3) Choosing right set of people in our lives: There is nothing more exciting than being
around people who show the energy of endless possibilities. These kinds of people are
needed in our lives if we wish to see what is attainable. When we surround our environment
with people who believe in the austerity of life, we are drained of energy and strength.
Therefore, the choice is really up to us- We want to reach the stars or do we want to stay on
the ground constantly looking up secretly wishing that we were among the dazzling jewels
that grace the heavens? A strong, positive and resilient attitude will help elevate you to
unimaginable heights.

In George Washington’s words, “Associate yourself with men of good quality if you esteem
your own reputation, for it is better to be alone than be in bad company.”
To summarize, it is evident that our attitude has the power to change everything in our lives
and not our aptitude. It is up to us which way we choose to go.
