Legalization of medical marijuana is way more practical because of the following reasons:

First, legalizing medical marijuana is practical because there are no other drugs to be prescribed and
doctors and researchers will not conduct further researches for other medicine to cure existing
illnesses because marijuana can cure it.

Second, it is practical for the government because...

Third, it is practical because there are no number of death cases reported.

Your honors, let me further discuss my reasons. First, it is practical for the public most especially to
patients and doctor because the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved 3 cannabinoids as
drugs. In 2018, the agency approved epidiolex oral solution for the treatment of seizures associated
with 2 rare, severe forms of epilepsy. This drug is derived from marijuana. The FDA has also approved
the synthetic cannabinoids dronabinol and nabilone to treat nausea and vomiting associated with
cancer chemotherapy in people who have already taken other medicines to treat these symptoms
without good results. Dronabinol is also approved to treat loss of appetite and weight loss in people
with AIDS. Dronabinol contains synthetic delta 9 tetrahydrocannabinol, a component of marijuana and
nabilone contains a synthetic substance with a similar chemical structure. In 2016, the FDA approved
syndros,a liquid form of dronabinol. No other drugs to be prescribed and patients will not endure such
other pains.

Because of the ban of marijuana, researches to its benefits was postponed. And if the research for the
medical purposes goes on and on, there is a huge possibility that we can explore more benefits of
medical marijuana. Just like in the case of National Institute of Drug Abuse contracts with the
University of Mississippi to grow marijuana for use in research studies. The University designates a
secure plot of land where marijuana crops are grown, harvested, stored, and made available as bulk
marijuana or other purified elements of marijuana to use for research for its medical purposes.

Another marijuana chemical that scientists are studying, called cannabidiol doesn’t make you high
because it acts on different parts of the nervous system than THC scientist think this chemical might
help children who have a lot of seizures that can’t be contracted with other medicines.
Second, it is practical for the government. Marijuana has been used for medical purposes since 2700
BC to treat ailments. Marijuana can bring both favorable and unfavorable effects to the society and
environment. Our government is very much aware of this and have decided not legalize the drug
despite the efforts of citizens of convincing the government to legalize the marijuana. (Why they do
not want to legalize it and why should they legalize it?)

Third, meanwhile on the use marijuana which is considered illegal, there is no reported cases of death
and overdose. But on the other side, tobacco and alcohol both legal in the Philippines are 2 primary
causes of deaths. These have caused 10% and 30% of all deaths in the country, respectively.
Approximately 10 Filipinos die every hour due to tobacco related diseases. (Dagdag po ng reasons
why it is practical for the government)

Cannabis is on a legalize tour and it seems this tour will not stop anytime soon. Many countries have
legalized medical cannabis like District of Columbia, Israel, and Canada. And these countries had
removed the criminal sanctions for the medical use of marijuana. And we, the affirmative side
strongly propose the legalization of the medical marijuana.
