Thorough examination:
1. Means a detailed examination by a competent person supplemented by stripping
the gear down for inspection if judged necessary.
2. A competent person to examine all gears.
3. Any test involving proof load.
4. Every 12 months thorough examination which includes- dismantling of all loose
gear and hidden parts as judged necessary to arrive at a reliable conclusion as
safety of plant is examined.

5. Certificate numbers.
6. Examination performed e.g. initial, yearly, 5 yearly, if any repairs or damage etc.
7. Declaration of competent person to be signed and dated.
8. Remarks to be signed and dated.
Competent person: someone over 18 years in age possessing practical and theoretical
knowledge and actual experience of the type of plant being examined. His job will be to
discover any defects or weakness and assess their importance in relation to strength,
stability, and function of the equipment.
