Summary of Procedures
The usher introduces the child to the examiner. The examiner asks the child what his / her name is and
how old he / she is.
1. Find the Differences
The examiner gives the child the Candidate’s copy of the Find the Differences picture. The child is
also shown the Examiner’s copy, but only briefly. Then the examiner makes a series of statements
about the picture shown on the Examiner’s copy, and the child has to make statements showing
how the Candidate’s copy is different.
For example:
Examiner: In my picture there are three aeroplanes.
Child: In my picture there are two aeroplanes.
Examiner: In my picture a man is buying a sandwich.
Child: In my picture a man is buying a cup of tea.

2. Information Exchange
The examiner gives the child the Candidate’s copy of the Information Exchange. The child is also
shown the Examiner’s copy, but only briefly. The examiner asks the child questions related to the
information the child has and the child answers.
For example:
Examiner: On what day was Robert’s school trip?
Child: It was on Monday.
Then the child asks the examiner questions and the examiner answers.
For example:
Child: How many children went on the trip?
Examiner: Twenty-three.

3. Picture Story
The examiner and the child look at the Picture Story. The examiner begins to tell the story.
For example:
Examiner: Dad is taking Lisa and David to the zoo. They are very excited. First, they look at the
lizards ...
Then the examiner asks the child to continue with the story.

4. The examiner asks the child questions about him / herself.


Possible questions:
• Have you got any hobbies? Do you do any sports?
• What do you usually have for breakfast?
• What is your favourite colour / food / sport / book / TV programme / etc?
• Who is your favourite singer / actor?
• What time do you usually go to bed / get up?
• Which countries would you like to visit?
• What do you want to be in the future?
• What is the most exciting thing you have ever done?
