Interesting facts

India had no national anthem when it became

an independent country on 15th August 1947. It
was adopted as India's national anthem later in
the 1950s. The Bengali version of Jana Gana
Mana was written by Rabindranath Tagore in
1911 which was first sung during the Calcutta
session of the Indian National Congress.

42
Importance of national
flag
Our current national flag had a number of iterations.
The version you know today was made by Pingali
Venkayya at Bezwada in 1921.Initially, the two dominant
colours, saffron and green, represented the two
prominent communities. The idea of the white strip in
the middle and the Ashok Chakra was given by
Mahatama Gandhi. The white shade represented other
communities and the Chakra was seen as a symbol of
progress. According to another theory, it is believed that
saffron stands for courage and sacrifice, green represents
faith and chivalry, and white is the symbol of peace. The
current national flag was adopted by India on July 22,
1947.

43
FLAG HOISTING
Unknown Facts
Everyone is aware of the fact that it was on 15 August 1947 our
Indian flag was hoisted, however, this is not true. The national flag
was first unfurled in Calcutta on 7th August 1906 at Parsee Bagan
Square.

ORIGIN OF THE NAME INDIA

Ever wondered from how or what inspired our country’s name. It
came from the river 'Indus' which was the home of the Indus Valley
Civilization. Also, in Sanskrit India’s name is Bhartiya Ganarjya and
this how we embarked on Bharat.

OTHER COUNTRIES WHO CELEBRATE INDEPENDENCE DAY ON 15TH

Well, we are not the only country who celebrate their
independence day on 15th August. India shares its day with five
other countries South Korea, North Korea, Liechtenstein, Bahrain
and Republic of the Congo. Its true India shares the same date,
however, they don't share the years.
