ABSTRACT

These papers discuss my general understanding and its summary about THE STUDENT’S
COMPANION BOOK and the whole course description of radio and television programming.

CHAPTER 1

1. INTRODUCTION

The student’s companion book is the book written by Magdalene chew and surinder kaur,
whereby the publisher is Ben and Company limited. The book is especially written for students
who wish to improve their command of guide and companion for English language students in
the primary, secondary, advanced level, colleges and universities. The student’s companion
book was first published in 1991 and in the past 10 years, the book has undergone more than
10 reprints.

This because it has received tremendous response from both teacher and parents, also it has
been widely used by many students in schools and universities. The student’s companion book,
their varied content ranging from grammar to vocabulary provide additional materials and
practice related to topic learned in school and their exercise are provided at the end of each
lesson to asses student understanding.

The aims of the book are; to serve as a guide and reference book for student in academic
matter, extra-curricular activities and healthy recreation, to develop virtues and values in life, to
motivate students in self-development and to inculcate a reading habit.

2. THINGS THAT I LEARNED


Through the student’s companion book, I have learned and I’m capable to use English
language on the following things.
i. Word classes
ii. Names of people, occupation and place
iii. The articles, subject verb agreement and active and passive voice
iv. Punctuations, abbreviation, foreign words and phrases

I. Word class, refer to the one of the traditional categories of word intended to reflect
their functions in a grammatical context. Through the student’s companion book, the
writer explained the different kind of word class such as nouns, pronouns, verbs,
adjectives, adverbs, conjunctions and preposition. In the book it explained from page
number 65 up to 120.
II. Names of people, their occupation and names of place. Also, in the student’s companion
book, the writer has summarized it in page number 1 up to 10. Whereby people, refer to
any group of human being (men, women or children) collectively. Occupation is the
principal activity in your life that you do to earn money. And place is a point located
with respect to surface feature of some region.
III. The student’s companion book explain about articles, subject verb agreement, active
and passive voice, direct and indirect speech from page number 132 up to 143. These
terms helps a reader to construct a good sentence because it used to make relationship
between the subject and verb.
IV. Punctuations, abbreviations, foreign words and phrases, arts and sciences, scientific
instrument, fun riddles and puzzles are also explained in the student’s companion book
from page number 146 up to 159. Whereby it helps to know how to write an academic
writing through punctuation abbreviations and other way.

3. CONCLUSSION

Generally, the student’s companion book is an essential guide and invaluable reference
book for student of primary, secondary, advanced level, colleges and universities. Because
their varied contents ranging from grammar to vocabulary provide additional materials and
practice related to topic learned. And final, the book has been written in response to a
pressing need for a guide and resource book which students, teachers; parents can turn to
for a wide range of educational materials.
