Punctuation with speech
When you write, you can use punctuation to show the things people said.

• Use quotation marks (" ") around the things people say:

I said, "Hi. We met a few minutes ago."

He said, "Yeah, we did."

• Use a comma (,) after said:

I said, "Hi. We met a few minutes ago."

He said, "Yeah, we did."

• Use a capital letter to start a quotation (= what someone said):

I said, "Hi. We met a few minutes ago."

He said, "Yeah, we did."
