Prior Learning
Describe the learning that has taken place that sets the stage for this lesson.
Activities with cops, firefighters. It would be helpful if one comes in and talks to the kids
and hands out stickers.
Unit of Study
I will address in this standard that the community all have different jobs. I will show
them thats there are important jobs within the community. I will also make sure that the kids
know what the jobs consist of doing. I will read the book “When I Grow up.”
1. The students will know what a police officers and firefighters do
2. The students will be able to identify with their childhood dream job.
3. The students will know that each job has an impact on what they do today.
4. TSW answer all the questions about jobs that I bring up, like, janitor, teacher, principle, cops,
firefighter, student and other community jobs.
Implementation
1. Introduction to Lesson (Hook - simple and quick)
I would ask them if they have ever seen a police car, firefighter engine or even seen any
type of people working? I will reassure that they already know about the topic we are about to go
over. I will also ask them what their dream job is.
Sequence of Activities
1. (TTW) The teacher will ask them “what jobs do you parents have?” Then I would ask
them if they knew what their job did. During this whole exercise I would write down
what each student says or even categorize them.
2. TTW make sure each student takes a turn, by that I will use the popsicle method, just to make
sure each student answers.
3. TTW make sure they know what colors go with each job, for example, cops have blue and
what equipment they may have.
4. TTW make sure they draw and the kids will cut out, the logo of the police star and the kids
will write Officer “their name” or but badges so they can write their name on it.
5. TTW also make sure they know how to draw and I would give them a piece of paper and they
will draw a car or something related to the job they have learned.
Closure
Reflect/Question etc.
I will close the lesson by re-asking the children, “What did you learn about police
officers,” or “Is there a different job that appeals to you .” I will clearly write down what they
each say
Assessment
