Guideline 1. Reading and Listening Component.
Learning purpose.
By the end of this guideline, you will have a better understanding of the most
important strategies for reading and listening comprehension. To do this, you will
explore different strategies and do some practice exercises. In addition, you will do
self-assessment throughout the process in order to check how well you have
assimilated the strategies and the key points.

Cambridge Platform
1. The material you will use in this course is Cambridge English Practice Testbank
IELTS on Cambridge Learning Management System. The information related to
your user name and password will be sent via e-mail by Unidad Académica
(materialesvac). If you do not get the information you need, send an email to
materialesvac@universidadean.edu.co
3. During the induction session, your tutor will explain how to complete the
activities you will be assigned on this platform.
Autonomous activities
This set of assigments will give you an understanding of the most important
reading strategies required to increase your reading comprehension and reading
abilty in general. You will visit some websites to watch videos, study some
presentations, and do some exercises to guide your process. Later, you will do
some self-assessment in order to keep track of your progress and ability.
1. Warm-up
How much do you know about the reading IELTS test? Go over learning object 1
and take the quiz.
2. Platform activity
Diagnostic test: go online to the Cambridge platform and complete reading – Test
1 on test mode. Check the course calendar to complete this activity.
3. Reading strategies (part 1)
Go over learning object 2 in order to get ideas on how to approach a text. Take
notes.

object 5 and take the quiz.
2. Platform activity
Diagnostic test: go online to the Cambridge platform and complete listening –
Test 1 on test mode. Check the course calendar to complete this activity.
In this set of assigments you will have the opportunity to get familiar with some
strategies that will help you get the main point(s) and the overarching theme of a
conversation or talk. You will watch short videos, read some explanations and
examples that will lead you to subsequent exercises intended to develop your
ability to deal with certain amount of information. At the end, you will do some
exercises on the platform.

9.2 Go online to the Cambridge platform and take test 3 on test mode: listening
and reading sections. Test 3 will be graded as follows:
Your listening and reading scores are calculated by the number of correct answers
you have out of the 40 questions in the test. The table below indicates the average
number of marks required to achieve a particular band score and the grade you will
get according to the grading system in this course.
