3. What would you say is your greatest talent or skill?

How have you developed and

demonstrated that talent over time?

The talent that comes to mind is improvising. I use it almost all the time when it comes to
presenting. I usually write up some ideas and just go with the flow from there. I believe that
some of my strongest speeches have come from the dome as they say. I am most comfortable
when things are written exactly how they are needed when I am giving a formal speech,
however, when I am with people whom I trust and know will not judge, I find it best to just
freestyle. I usually speak before I think. Sometimes Ill catch myself lost at what I was talking
about but thats the best part because in the end you somehow have to make it come together. I
feel that speaking your mind naturally truly comes from the heart. Auto correct can fix your
mistakes and you always have the delete button when you have typed something you didnt
want to say but when you just speak, Its the truth speaking.

4. Describe how you have taken advantage of a significant educational opportunity or worked
to overcome an educational barrier you have faced.

Being involved in AP English has given me a taste of what it is like to attend a UC or CSU.
There are a lot of sleepless nights and overdoses on coffee in the mornings. The stress level is
sky rocket, and sometimes Id let out a little cry. But in the end it is all worth it because I know
that I am preparing myself for what the future holds. Or at least for what I plan the future to hold
for me. I see big money in my future, but in order to do that I need to graduate high school and
get a degree in whatever it is that I want to be. Another class that I have found extremely hard
would be Pre-Calculus because it requires a different type of thinking. Its not like any other
math, most math problems can be learned step by step, but once you enter six different trig
function and how to solve, simplify, and Identify youre in for it. There are no more steps to
follow. It is up to you on where you wanna to start the problem. Then theres a method called
Guess and Check. I dont know why this even exists but it does and I can confidently say
almost all students do not understand this method. In the end what it comes down to is teaching
yourself. Which is what you will have to do in college. A lot of studying on your own and going in
to meet teachers in their office hours. Im just glad Im taking hard classes now to prepare me
for what is to come.
5. Describe the most significant challenge you have faced and the steps you have taken to
overcome this challenge. How has this challenge affected your academic achievement?

The most significant challenge that I have faced would be my height. I try to not let it interfere
with the way I carry myself and I could honestly say that I do a very good job at that. However
there are sometimes that I do get discouraged. For example, a profession that I am really
interested is being a cop or a fire fighter. I want to take down the bad guys and carry people out

of danger, but those things are almost impossible when you are 410. As a kid I was bullied and
pushed to the ground a lot. I mean it was easy to do. I was a little rag doll to all the bigger kids.
I overcame this challenge with my humor and dance skills. Once I started becoming an
entertainer the other kids stopped beating me up. It felt nice to be noticed for other things rather
than being noticed for my height. Im not going to lie Im still noticed for it everyday but people
are a lot nicer about it in high school. They call me cute and small, which is a lot better than
being called, shrimp shit. They also say theyd like to throw me around and squeeze me, but
not for real this time. I think they just mean like a teddy bear.

6. Describe your favorite academic subject and explain how it has influenced you.

My favorite academic subject would be Physics. It has influenced me to consider a career in the
science field. I am leaning more towards forensic science. I find it interesting to find out how
people died. I figured that if I couldnt save their lives at least I could find the cause that took
them. At first Physics was hard for me, but after I went in for help my F went to an A+. It became
addicting. I would go in every 5th period for extra help even though I knew I had an A in the
class. I could tell that the teacher would sometimes get annoyed with me. But then again you
can tell that he was also proud. I became a tutor for his 8th period physics class and was able to
help others understand how gravity works and how it allows us to stay seated instead of floating
in the air. My favorite lesson would have to be the wave lesson. We learned how to tell how fast
a wave is going and how to find the amplitude. This interested me because I wondered if the
waves speed could possibly harm life under water.
