1.Experiment No.7
II. Title:Transistor as a switch
III. Objectives:

1. To demonstrate the operation, characteristics and design of bipolar transistor

switch.
2. To demonstrate current amplification of a bipolar transistor.

IV. Materials Required:

1 NPN transistors – models 2N2222 or 2N3403

2 6 -volts dc supply
1 560 Ω resistor
1 470 kΩ resistor
1 200 Ω resistor
1 4.7 kΩ resistos
1 220 kΩ resistor
1 LED

V .Procedure:

1. Connect the circuit shown in the schematic diagram.

Schematic diagram

The red wire shown in the diagram ( the one terminating in an arrowhead, connected to
one end of the 100 kΩ) is intended to remain loose, so that you may touch it
momentarily to other points in the circuit.

2. Connect the red wire to the ground. Measure VBE = ________ and VCE = _______.

3. Change the 100 kΩ resistor to 4.7 kΩ. Connect the red wire to 12 Volts and measure the
voltages VBE, VCB , and VCE . Tabulate you results in Table A.
4. Change 4.7 kΩ to 220 kΩ. Connect the red wire to 12 Volts and measure the voltages
VBE, VCB , and VCE . Tabulate you results in Table A.
