1. Express the followings as indicated
a. 752 µA to mA.
b. 0.98m V to µV.
c. 270 µS +0.13 mS in µS and mS.
2. A certain material has four electrons in the valance shell and a second material has one. Which one
is better Conductor, Justify your answer?
3. Answer the followings
a. What makes a material a good conductor? (in your answer consider valance shell and free
electrons)
b. Besides being a good conductor, list two other reasons why copper is so widely used.
c. What makes a material good Insulator?
d. Normally air is an Insulator. However during lighting discharges, conduction occurs.
Briefly discuss the mechanism of charge flow in this discharge.
4. How do you charge a secondary battery? Make a sketch. Can you charge a primary Battery?

5. Determine R for each of the following. Express your answer in the most appropriate unit: Ω, kΩ,
MΩ, etc.

6. In a factory, two machines, each delivering 27 kW are used on an average for 8.7 h/day, 320
days/year. If the efficiency of the newer machine is 87% and that of the older machine is 72%,
compute the difference in cost per year of operating them at $0.10 per kilowatthour.
7. Determine the total cost of using the following at $0.11 per kWh:

a. 900-W toaster for 5 minutes,

c. 1100-W dishwasher for 36 minutes,

d. 120-V, 288-Ω soldering iron for 24 minutes.

8. Solve for the unknown voltages in the circuit of Figure below.

9. For the circuit of Figure below, find the following quantities:

a. The circuit current.
b. The total resistance of the circuit.
c. The value of the unknown resistance, R.
d. The voltage drop across all resistors in the circuit.
e. The power dissipated by all resistors.

10. Use the information given to determine the polarity and magnitude of the unknown voltage source
in each of the circuits of Figure?.
